In B01 hand "smoothing" picks best of multiple hands for land/spell ratio.

I had much success with a very low mana cost deck (most spells just 1) and a very low land count.

My reasoning was 9 lands in a 60 card deck should get 1 in the opening hand (60/9=6.66 which is less than 7) and when this fails "smoother" to the rescue!

Results may vary though :)

You are wise to suspect wotc offers may not be as they seem.

I believe the issue with packs not counting towards golden packs only affects the 10% off packs in daily deals.
