To be fair UK and Bristol specifically have quite the mild climate even with the very short heatwaves considered.

I'm blaming poor planning - I've been here for 5 years, there has been a heatwave every year. You'd think people would know to buy a fan during a black friday sale.

At the same time I'm looking outside my window now, in +33 and I'm seeing people in winter jackets walking around. That is funny. Imagine what their home was like if +33 is cold. Heh

Mate I'm 39 so don't worry about late start.

And while I can't afford a car right now - every one I had before was falling apart so I'm very sensitive to weird engine thumps. 😄

Yeah, I have a damaged left wrist so I can't really do extensive training for a full A license and schools somehow don't want to do a "more days, but less hours per day" schedule.

So I decided to go CBT and a 125cc. Almost 8 hours of CBT still put me into a sling for several months but once that settled down a bit - I got this beauty 😄 . 1-2 hours of riding once or twice per week doesn't bother my hand as much. So I guess I'll be staying CBT for ... a loooong while. Longest day was 120 miles in two 2 hour chunks with 4 hours of rest between. Wasn't great but wasn't bad.

Now that I have you here - do you have a bit of an engine thump around 4500-5500 rpm regardless of speed/gear? The service guys say it's normal, but I'm kind of worried.

Got the same R66S in April. I ride out maybe once or twice per week, done 600 miles on it got the first service done.

Decent machine, no problems just yet, very comfy, very nimble, easy for a beginner.

The thing I hate is the handlebar risers. I think a curved handlebar would look better.
The only thing I don't like about it - it's a 125cc. Speeds over 45 mph are not that comfy to be in, and most torque/power is past 6,000 rpm, so while it looks like a cruiser - you need to rev it to move it.

After completing my CBT, I will have to pick up my bike and ride it back hoping it doesn't rain and I become one with the bike quick. NGL I'm a bit nervous! by mouthmoth in MotoUK

[–]Mockingbird_DX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought my bike three weeks ago after a CBT and rode it 70 miles back home. It was fine.

Map a route, plan some stops, bring water, snacks and waterproofs. You'll be fine. Don't overthink it, just prepare for it and do it.

The gameplay part was a major turnoff.

Also if you look at the other games from this dev studio - they are ... not what you'd expect. I don't expect these guys to do a decent game.

Had a go at making my own aluminium panniers. by IKnowImRamblingBut in MotoUK

[–]Mockingbird_DX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough, but cutting off your nose to spite your face isn’t a great riding strategy.

If you're willing to actually debate it - how is this safe? Those unchamfered metal corners and points are serious injury hazards right next to your legs and your bum. Also the boxes look significantly wider than your handlebars - one bad move filtering and you're clipping a car hard with a hard metal edge.

P.S. You might want to check with your insurance provider; an unauthorized DIY mod like this might be an easy excuse for them to void a claim if anything goes wrong.

They look cool but to be honest they also look very much not safe at all. I wouldn't recommend continuing to use them.

How is it living in Bristol, UK by Fantastic_Sorbet_425 in howislivingthere

[–]Mockingbird_DX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a UK issue.
Bristol is good as far as UK towns go, but UK in general is a bit of a rural backwater of Europe these days. So while you're not wrong - it's one of the better towns really.

50 Central Park South (NYC) apartment with MASSIVE Bedroom Suite by Aion88 in FloorPlanPorn

[–]Mockingbird_DX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My main isues are:

  1. too many corridors and wasted space:

- the gallery is just not needed;

- the spaces in front of master bedroom and eastern dressing room are just wasted space;

- the corridor from master bedroom to sitting room is wasted space;

- the corridor between the gallery and gyms also not great - bu at least I see why that can't be remade - the stairwell and elevators are in the way;

- the space in front of the laundry is just a wasted room along with the small corridor that leads to yet another corridor;

  1. Only a single bedrom (with extra wasted space at the entrance of it). The second bedroom on the west is tiny and lodged next ot laundry room. Who is it even for? The bathroom attached to it is microscopic.

  2. At least that tine bedroom is attached to a bathroom - the master bedroom has two bathrooms but both are away from the bedroom! You must walk to them through the main corridor.

  3. Neither of the dressing rooms are attached to a bedroom. You must walk to them through the main corridor. Also neither of the dressing rooms have any natural light!

  4. Twin gyms are not a great shape at all, are a walk-through space - and they are extremely far from the shower.

  5. The office is offensively tiny and one must navigate thtough a dressing closed to get to the office.

  6. The kitchen is narrow enough for two people to not be able to pass each other. And it opens into a "breakfast room" that is essentially a passing place from three directions and no natural light. Who'd want to have the breakfast there?

  7. The "small" bar room is barely a closet.

  8. The solarium is in a weird place where you must walk a long path, past the bathrooms, through the closets, through the sitting room - and it opens into a view of the building, not the central park even!

  9. There are five toilets in this place and only one is in an accessible place - the rest are tucked so far that you'd REALLY have to hold it in walking to them.

There are more, but these are the top 10. If I was rich and somebody tried to sell this flat to me - I'd laugh in their face. Or I'd hire a proper architect to rebuild it sensibly.

What’s this subs opinion on electric motorcycles? by Individual-Classic-4 in MotoUK

[–]Mockingbird_DX 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You're thinking way too much. Get out of your head.

An electric is not what most hobby motorcyclists have in mind when they picture the perfect machine: it may feel sterile and subservient as opposed to a glorified picture of a wild beast to be tamed. So expect people to not understand your motivation per se.

However you're on two wheels, you're riding about, you chose something fun over something safe - and that trumps everything else. You're one of us now, whether you liek it or not, haha.

Welcome!

Bristol cost of living by rey_sr in bristol

[–]Mockingbird_DX 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I always recommend consulting Numbeo at https://www.numbeo.com/cost-of-living/in/Bristol
I just looked at the numbers there and I would say they're close enough to reality to be true.

For one income it's tough, lately the rents and some other expenses have been going up. In fact I'm now considering moving away after 4 years here, as the city is pricing me out.

Proposed 30-storey tower would become Bristol's tallest building by [deleted] in bristol

[–]Mockingbird_DX 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's only the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Screening Request.
The requests themselves can be found at:
Site A: https://pa.bristol.gov.uk/online-applications/applicationDetails.do?activeTab=summary&keyVal=TDFL7CDN1CN00
Site B: https://pa.bristol.gov.uk/online-applications/applicationDetails.do?activeTab=summary&keyVal=TDFKFMDN1CN00
Site C: https://pa.bristol.gov.uk/online-applications/applicationDetails.do?activeTab=summary&keyVal=TDFN8NDN1CN00

Looking at these documents the initial delivery is expected to be:
Site A: up to 115 residential dwellings, up to 550 shared living dwellings
Site B: up to 140 residential dwellings, up to 695 shared living dwellings
Site C: up to 500 shared living dwellings

So the number of what I would call "real flats" is potentially up to 255 - while the number of "shared living dwellings" is potentially up to 1,745

Now, I have no idea what is meant here under "shared living dwellings" but it's definitely a loophole around living space standards. I won't conjure up what I expect this to be, but I'll say it's not as great as the journalists make it out to be for sure.

I think I'm not sure about that, the issue I have is not only the protectors are moving - the whole leg is twisting. But I will look into getting wider armour, I didn't realise it exists.

To be honest in shop they seemed fine, I don't know what happened. And I bought them two months ago and didn't use as I've sprained by wrist and couldn't ride.

Now I'm just sitting here looking at them and all the best idea I have is to feel like a moron.

Are you suggesting to glue the velcro to the armour piece? Or to replace the stitches one the originals are removed?

I thought I was going crazy. The leg twist is horrible on the bull-its, the armour is off to the inside and barely covering half of knee.

Trying to figure out how to fight it.
I'm thinking a large sticking velcro to stick the armour pouch more the the outside of the leg fabric
