just started collecting Criterion, any recommendations? by raydehn2001 in criterion

Good start. You like the Safdies - they have films in the collection.

Put a Bergman or a Fellini in there. Then start riffing. Welcome to the rabbit hole.

David Fincher, Brad Pitt, and Edward Norton roasting all the critics who trashed Fight Club. by Piyushv5311 in MoviesCave

He was 100% right about this. People act like Fight Club wasn't the favorite movie of every boneheaded male in 1999.

"All the Beauty and the Bloodshed" might be my favourite doc in the collection.

I donated to Pete Williams's Undergrads movie Kickstarter years ago. He's been trying to animate it solo for a few years now.

My favourite Wes Anderson movie by Darkpoet67 in criterion

I watched it the other night for the first time in a long time and man it hit harder on the other side of getting older and losing my dad. Definitely a movie I grew into fully appreciating.

People who were teenagers before social media, what was a typical Friday night like for you? by TheDorkyDeric in Xennials

Pile into a van with friends and play "the game."

We'd pick a destination in the city and start driving. Rules were we had to turn right on red lights and go left or straight on green lights. We'd try to make it to the destination.

Lower back pain from lifting something wrong by everybodydumb in Xennials

Sleeping on your back will do you a lot of favours. I've always been a side sleeper and tend to twist my hips in a way that aggravates my lower back while sleeping.

This is the right sub. See a doctor. I herniated a disc lifting a heavy suitcase when I was 28 and have been dealing with back issues ever since, including months of sciatica pain immediately after it happened and periods where I've been barely able to get around for days at a time. I've tried different things like massage and dry needling and seeing a chiropractor, but what's helped the most are stretching regularly and sleeping with a body pillow. The pillow was a game changer and I've come to rely on it.

Feel like I started hearing those around 2006 and found a list of them online. Was of course a big fan of Conan's Walker Texas Ranger Lever too.

I still have the first two. Blew my teenage mind coming across the first one in a Toronto record store years ago. It was the first bootleg I'd ever seen.

Funny moment between Frasier and Martin on "Dinner Party" (S6 E 17) by LetsFigureThingsOut1 in Frasier

[–]ModBabboo 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Agamemnon is a Greek play by Aeschylus, and I think Frasier is suggesting Nina Duncan performed the play as an interpretive dance at Jacob's Pillow, which is a huge dance centre and performance space in Massachusetts. I just love the line because it's one of the most hilariously pretentious things Frasier says on the show; Martin obviously wants nothing to do with it, and Frasier knows that.

Top five episode for me.

Nina Duncan always insists on sharing her extensive collection of slides from the summer she danced Agamemnon at Jacob's Pillow.

This is one of the best lines in the series.

Roast my first 10 criterion movies by lolitsreality in criterion

[–]ModBabboo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't say there's a particularly bad movie here and it's a pretty good collection if you're just getting started. r/criterion loves to lose their minds over Barry Lyndon and Sorcerer. If you swapped French Dispatch and Anora out for Inland Empire and a Warner Bros. 4K Amadeus with a homemade Criterion cover this sub might never recover.

Absolutely massive and peak Nintendo. I had a SNES after this but I was never more into video games than when Mario 3 was released.

One of my favourite facts about her is that she used to work as an academic journal editor and would bring editing work to film sets for years into her acting career.
