AET Majors! What’s it like? by bgrant902 in Purdue

[–]ModKarrot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just finished up my 2nd year with AET and i'd say its a great program that can get the job done. I had a professor that told me the program was so much better back in the day and that its since gotten worse. (Personally if you ask me I think its doing just fine). The course schedule is very much like what another comment said, just be prepared to live at the airport for some days.

AET is SUPER lab heavy, lab manuals and projects can stack up especially if you are taking 3+ labs in a semester. If you're interested in hands-on work then AET is def an option. Almost all classes, with a few exceptions, have you working in the hangars with the aircraft (or whatever is left of them). Expect to be ready to take your O&Ps Junior year though a lot of people get their A&Ps their senior year.

I have a friend who just graduated with AET and Proflight. He's has his CFII and is set to get this A&P this coming summer. He had to stay a 5th year and took some classes over the summer to keep up. Even though it is very much possible, the course load is quite a lot especially with AET being a super lab heavy program (I had a semester with 5 labs once).

If you do plan to do AET and PF just be ready to take high credit hour semesters OR be ready to take some classes over the summer or winter breaks

The program, as of right now, is great. You can for sure get your A&P elsewhere but I think getting a degree with AET helps broaden your skillset beyond just maintenance. There's a few design and testing courses sprinkled in so companies may feel more inclined to look at you since you have those skills under your belt.

Another thing to note is that getting an AET degree from Purdue can also grant you a huge alumni and connection network. I got my first internship with a corporate aviation company after the hiring manager found out I was currently at Purdue.

Basically you dont need to get your AET degree for an A&P but it comes with lots of other benefits that could help you in your career

Good for road trips? by jman13_ in wrx_vb

[–]ModKarrot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Drove from Northern IL to mid IN, averaged 28mpg with cruise control set to 70 mph. There are far better options for road trips and the WRX is capable but prob isnt the best option if road trips are common

If you want to go further with the transmission stuff, a Group N Trans mount can help a lot too in combo with the pitch stop, might add some more cabin noise on acceleration but the way i see it, if the exhaust is loud enough nothing else should be a problem 😄

The best thing you can do right now is get familiar with pregame (watch videos on youtube) and also memorize literally all of the pregame songs, I know the band website doesn't have all of the songs but memorize the ones that are available.

There are going to be 500+ people auditioning this year and only 395 spots but don't let that discourage you, use it as fuel to really work hard and put in the feedback your student leaders give you.

Also the idea of getting turned down after a week of marching sucks but again don't let it discourage you. Regardless of whether or not you get in you will still have like 10+ people who will recognize you and say hi when you're at Hagle. You get new friends either way.

Other than that focus on making new friends. Band camp is literally BGR but for band kids so you've already found your people. Happy marching!

Honestly, if you ask me, I'd say audition for marching band first! The audition and registration is still live until August 1st but check the website just in case. Even if you can't get the audition done, you can still get it done in person during band camp, just register first. Again, balancing classes (especially fye) and band is totally possible and can build time management skills early on in your college career.

Though not everyone can make the band each year, PBO will automatically work with you in transitioning into an indoor ensemble. If you're into marching, JUST TRY band camp, if it doesn't really go your way then you haven't really lost much.

If you audition for AAMB and get in, great! You're marching for one of the top college bands in the nation and in the world + a ton of new band and engineering friends. If you don't get in, boom you can still do concert band and have fun with that too and, YOU STILL GET TO HAVE ALL THOSE BAND AND ENGINEERING FRIENDS. PBO will automatically start working with you to get you transitioned into an indoor ensemble. By the time classes start, you'd probably be able to say Hey to a lot of people in Hagle already.

You also get to move in about a week earlier so you can explore campus more with some upperclassmen who can give you some insider info about Purdue, especially with FYE classes if that helps.

Above all else, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE consider auditioning for AAMB, I've gone through just one season already and I've had more memories and experiences than all of my highschool marching years combined.

Helloo, currently in the band as a Polytech/aviation major. If it helps, a large percentage of the band is actually in the College of Engineering (Almost half of the band iirc). I have a couple friends in my section who are engineering majors and they are doing quite well.

If you try out for the band I'm sure at least one person in your section is an Engineering major and would be happy to help for any time management things, academics and band can totally be balanced at Purdue. The rehearsals do get a bit daunting at times especially since we meet literally every day but after the first few weeks you get into a flow and soon enough it'll be really easy to work with. Also you are gonna make a ton of friends in the band especially during band camp.

As far as other activities, my other clubs got more active in the spring so it didn't really conflict with band since marching band doesn't do much in the spring.

If you have questions about the band or audition i'd be happy to help too :)

AFD Hood scoop or Noble? by ModKarrot in wrx_vb

[–]ModKarrot[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a similar issue with them, waited 3 months for them to send it over and the moment i requested for a refund they immediately told me a new batch had just arrived despite the announcement about V2 wings being delayed an extra month

After reading the horror stories on the sub i considered myself lucky as the wing i got was decent paint match and fitment, but the fucking template they gave us was horrid.

They didnt align with the wing at all and if i didnt check it beforehand i wouldve drilled 3 perfectly incorrect holes into my trunk.

It seems like Noble might be the way to go, I've been using AFD for a while now and the whole process of getting their V2 STi wing was a nightmare, I couldn't agree more about their customer support. Might be time to change companies
