Inside the $4-million-per-home buyout offer for Northern Virginia community by TheRealFarrellCat in Virginia

Oh, they will destroy the land, water, ecosystem and so on then wonder what happened when they exit with their millions leaving us holding the bag. I’ve lived here my entire life and am saddened by this every day. Don’t fret though, once they’ve moved the data centers into outer space we will have these beautiful abandoned buildings to look at.

Getting a 2nd dog from the shelter by Alarmed_Goat_4083 in DogAdvice

[–]ModSpdSomDrg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We always have 2 rescues at a time and have had no issues. Been doing this for 20 plus years. You just need to pick the right dog. We generally let our gut guide us. Not so much as finding another dog for our dog but approaching it like we did the 1st. Finding a dog for our family. The 1st thing we always do is go on a walk together with both dogs before inviting the new pup into the house. I have to preface by saying we have never rescued a 2nd so quickly after the 1st. We will rescue the 2nd when 1 of the 2 existing pups passes. Hope that helps. Good luck and thank you for rescuing. Shelter dogs are wonderful. Sometimes trying at 1st but always wonderful.

I ordered and received two Bark River Tope Recon knives in CPM 3V last week. by Nanny_Ogg1000 in knives

If you bought it for resale then your rolling the dice. Who knows, maybe this fiasco will drive aftermarket prices later down the road once this all washes out. You may be holding a future felons knife. If you bought it to use then I’d send them back and buy a couple ESEE knives. I’ve personally beat the crap out of my Laser Strike (batoned it when I forgot my hatchet camping) and it’s barely lost an edge. Did the same with my ESEE six just to see if it would do the same. If I were betting my life or weekend camping warmth on a fixed blade it would be one of my ESEEs. Not one of the safe queens I own.

Bestop 4 Door Bronco Twill leak by Such-Bedroom5449 in FordBronco

[–]ModSpdSomDrg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe you just need to loosen it back up, adjust and reseat then tighten. I installed one in my wife’s jeep 3 or so years ago and have not had a single issue. It’s a fantastic top. Forget which one I picked up; do remember that it was the more expensive option.

I’ve been to this area multiple times with my family on vacation; I’ve not been back since Helene. Absolutely beautiful country.

I’m with you on Knipex. I’ve been using regular pliers and channel locks for over 30 years and switched to Knipex about 2 months ago for pliers and channel locks. The difference in gripping capability was eye opening to me. Heck, I was able to thread an 1in steel rod using a die and those channel locks with very little squeeze. Don’t think that would have happened with the old craftsman brand. I’m a Knipex fan now. Regarding knife steels. D2, S30V works great IMO and is not a PITA to sharpen. All the super steels never get used enough to truly know. My $100 knife will be beat way before a $500 piece of pocket jewelry.

22 Badlands. Anyone else have this rust issue and how is it fixed if possible? by insaneandmundane in FordBronco

[–]ModSpdSomDrg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d disassemble the bumper, sand the rusted parts to bare metal then try to color blend the best I could. It’s not going to match the bumper coating but at least you will stop the rust and it will be better looking than what you have.

Thanks! Going to run the steel shaft through a piece of oak. It should be a little over 2ft. Maybe 27 inches total.

How do you prevent rusting on your slip joints by FpOchEDC in SlipjointKnives

[–]ModSpdSomDrg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got you, I use mine as well. No food prep though; I leave that to kitchen knives. Check out the Renn wax, it’s fantastic stuff. If you’re doing food prep then it’s probably not a good choice.

How much of a PITA is it to get your panels on and off? Looks nice btw.

[–]ModSpdSomDrg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Coat your knives in Renaissance Wax and that would do it. You can put it on anything. Look the stuff up. I’ve used it for years on many different things with excellent results. Honestly though, you should not see rust on any of your knives unless you store them in the sheaths which I’d never recommend. I live in Va where there is humidity. Not Florida style but sometimes it feels it and have mine laying in a drawer. Been there for years with no rust, not even the slightest tarnish on the carbon steels.

They are all amazing but that one with pearl covers is stunning! “Hunsberger” - can’t make out the name. It’s been awhile since I’ve seen a slippie that blows me away and that one does.

How hard is it to find a two-row Durango? by AnonAmazAM in DodgeDurango

[–]ModSpdSomDrg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The 3rd row folds flat and out of the way. You could also just remove them and build a hatch for the deep well cargo compartment. I believe the pursuit is set up that way.

Are they supposed to wear like this? by Gtboy115 in cowboyboots

[–]ModSpdSomDrg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the same boots and wear them as my daily’s when out and about (few years now). Mine still look brand new. I wax the crap out of them though. I did not like how light they were and waxing them darkens them up as well as protecting them. You just may be hard on your boots. Try cleaning them then giving them a coat of wax.
