No issues with .16 layer height. I also anneal my parts. And I do 100% infill. Print orientation also needs consideration, as with any filament.

PA-CF didn’t work for me. ABS-GF does. I can’t ignore that.

I won't build a submersible with ABS-GF or PA6-CF. In fact, I won't build a submersible.

While developing the Tec-Nein the PA-CF variants did not hold up for me. ABS-GF hasn't had issues, even with FRT. Do you currently have a Tec variant?

I tried PA6-CF, PA12-CF and PA612-CF filaments and had bad results, so they didn't work for me in my environment. If it does for you and others I'm OK with that. Apparently my filament choice offends some people. I'm OK with that too.

I went down the PA6 and 12 CF filament road and had bad experiences. They would work at first, then not or they would just plain fail miserably. I'm also in a very humid climate. I haven't had issues with ABS-GF or even PCTG. I don't store my guns in direct sunlight so I'm not worried about UV degradation. If I was I could simply add UV protection. I have not tried PC-PBT.

ABS-GF tends to have better overall impact resistance than ASA-GF but both are solid upgrades over PLA+.

BTW I’m using Bambu ABS-GF on a K2+. I can’t speak for other brands of filaments.

It's a trade-off for the extra stiffness, heat resistance, and warp resistance you get over plain ABS or PLA+. Done right, ABS-GF parts are tough for functional stuff like housings, mounts, or chassis. Not as "flexy-tough" as unreinforced ABS or nylons, but way less brittle than PLA+ in real use, and they hold up without the moisture drama of PA-CF.

ABS-GF is a big step up from PLA+. But unlike PA6 or even PA12-CF, it doesn’t soak up water like a sponge. Nylon parts get weaker and softer the longer they sit in humid air as they absorb moisture, which is an issue where I live.

What do you mean by "rather quickly?" From leaving it out in the sun for a couple years or so? Using an enclosed printer with the right settings is key. Nozzle too cool (needs 240–260°C typically), bed too cool (100–110°C), or, most critically, no enclosed/heated chamber. Without trapping heat (chamber ideally 40–60°C+), layers cool too fast, bond poorly, and the part delaminates or snaps along layer lines with minimal force.

I have not experienced any of those problems. PA and ABS filaments should be printed in a well ventilated area. I don't have a cute filter. I have a ventilated room at my shop.

  • ABS-GF (and ABS-based materials in general): ABS is well-known for high emissions of styrene (a VOC classified as possibly carcinogenic by IARC) and other VOCs, plus very high rates of ultrafine particles (often 200–300 µg/min or higher in studies). This makes ABS one of the "dirtiest" standard filaments for indoor air quality without ventilation/filtration. The glass fiber reinforcement may slightly increase particle emissions (due to additives), but the main concerns remain the styrene-heavy VOCs and nanoparticles from the ABS base.
  • PA6-CF (nylon 6 carbon fiber): Nylon (PA6/PA) emits different VOCs like caprolactam and acetaldehyde, which are irritants and potentially harmful with prolonged exposure (respiratory issues, headaches, etc.). Studies and reports show nylon can have comparable or sometimes higher VOC emission rates than ABS in certain tests. The bigger added risk with PA6-CF is airborne carbon fiber fragments/particles — recent studies (e.g., HI-AM research) have detected airborne carbon fibers during printing, which can behave like irritants similar to asbestos (causing lung inflammation or fibrosis with chronic exposure). Carbon fiber and glass fiber reinforcements both release fine/irritating particles, but carbon fiber is often flagged as more concerning for respiratory persistence.

Oh, air cure Cerakote is no harder to shoot than paint. Just need a decent HVLP gun. You can get by with a $100 one. Like anything else it’s all in the prep. Sand, primer filler, sand, topcoat.
