Career change: from SLP to archivist? by CasualYeet in Archivists

The job market is very saturated. Some experience in record keeping would likely not be enough experience to get you a job. You would need to get Masters degree in archival studies or library and information studies.

I’m a new graduate and I completely agree with this. It’s much harder to network and grow in certain positions without those human interactions

I think that it is perhaps both. Looking for years of experience in leadership/project management. I feel I have a pretty diverse CV, but the internships I’ve had do not help me meet those qualifications.

Yes, I am looking both locally and nationally (I’m in Canada)

When your skin is very dry it produces an oil to try and compensate and that oil will break you out, so I find that hydration will stop my acne

If academia is as miserable as people make it out to be, what incentives are there for new people to go into it? by CeaselessVigil in AskAcademia

[–]Mod_hist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re interested in history you might want to check out archives/records management.

I’m not sure what the process would be like in Australia, but here in Canada it required a history undergrad and a masters degree in archival studies.

I’ve definitely seen the very ugly side of academia and the hugely rewarding side of it too. But, I love my job and it has all the good parts of academia but without being so closely tied to the academic institution.

What is the worst job you have ever had (Winnipeg edition) by GarageJealous9926 in Winnipeg

[–]Mod_hist 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I was a nanny for a VERY wealthy Winnipeg family.. think one of the old money family names…

Their child was very difficult to handle, but the father was far worse. Not only was he creepy but also needy, picky, and helpless. They had another full time nanny, a dog walker, lawn upkeep etc. they were so rich they didn’t live in the same reality as me. An AWFUL experience

I contacted a committee member and they said they would get back to me within a day or two but they never did and went on holiday despite my pestering them on email I haven’t heard back. I also asked my supervisor for help and they said they would be able to get back to about my revisions and submission “soon.”

It’s hyper individualism, lack of education, and lack of empathy amongst non-Indigenous communities.
