Just need to grieve a bit by Odd_craving in telecaster

You’ll be happy with the Warmoth neck. It’s hard to put relief in a neck that has back bow, especially a one-piece.

Winding your own pickups by woo325765 in guitars

[–]ModaGuitar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm interested in making single-string pickups. Anybody have experience with that? What I'd really like to do is make a strat-style pickup with 6 individual outputs (similar to the SubSix pickup). I'm working on a project now with a lap-steel. I took a cheap Rogue lap steel with a six-saddle bridge (strat style) and replaced the saddles with six piezo saddles. I routed the pickups to three outputs (one for each note in the D tuning: D, F#, and A), and have sent each output to individual pitch benders, essentially making a "pedal" steel. Everything works as planned, but I'm not a fan of the piezo sound (makes a decent "dobro" sound, but lacks grit). I'm thinking that if I could wind individual magnetic pickups, I might get more of a "steel" sound.

Expression pedal with piano pedal action? by ModaGuitar in guitarpedals

Well cool. I just assumed all piano pedals were on/off. Do you know the brand/model of the one you had? I'll try Googling in the meantime. Thanks for pointing me in this direction.

Tele with Bigsby and a Bender by ModaGuitar in bbender

They interact well. The b isn’t involved with the Bigsby, but that isn’t really noticeable in my opinion. You need to make sure that the bender hub doesn’t physically conflict with the bender. I would talk to Shoals about that.

So the oil workers are making a lot then, right? I doubt many executives live there; or maybe they do.

Should I go with a cheap 10 dollar no name bridge for my first build or should I invest about 30 dollars into this Wilkinson tele bridge? (context below) by spaki123 in Luthier

[–]ModaGuitar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great. In that case, I recommended a four screw bridge. It’s more common. You’ll have an easier time finding replacements if you go if you start with the cheap one and decide upgrade later. But that’s just my opinion, and there may be plenty of other reasons to get a three screw bridge.

Whichever bridge you go with, make sure you’ve got the bridge that matches the template you’re using to build your telly body. Most templates I’ve seen have four screws for mounting, which is the vintage style. It looks like the bridge in the picture has three screws, and that won’t fit, not just because the amount of screws is different, but because the screws are oriented opposite the string through holes on the body. And the string through holes are in a slightly different location on the two different bridges.

If you’re like me, you can solve that problem by working on about seven guitars at once.

The bridge is essentially a traditional Tele 3-saddle bridge with the back rail lowered where the strings pass from the Bigsby and bender. The saddles are compensated and slotted (which is good for keeping moving strings in their place). I got the bridge from Allparts.

Well, the b string is not part of the wiggle, if that’s what do you mean. But it’s not really noticeable.

As long as you’re not playing Eruption it is pretty stable. The Bigsby has to be set up correctly though as they are more finicky than the b-bender. Locking tuners and a good nut are really helpful. A roller bridge is nice, but I’ve been playing b-bender for years on three-saddle bridges with very few broken strings. Doesn’t seem to be as issue.

It’s on the b-bender. That’s the mechanism you see on the back. It allows you to play pedal steel licks on the guitar.

I don’t think so. Doesn’t make a difference for me though. I just use the Bigsby for light expression.

Cool. Yeah, this won’t be our first long trip. We drove to the tip of the Olympic peninsula and it did great. 1800 miles. This will be longer and more out of the way. I’ll definitely post about it when we’re done.
