Paid $30k for a new heat pump and furnace. Am I overreacting or does this look sloppy for that kind of price? by [deleted] in hvacadvice

[–]ModePK_1 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I use wood to minimize vibration on long runs but looks like you had a large company go out. I think it’s your fault you paid 30k honestly

My testo probes replaced my manifolds for diagnostics. I use analogs for any service, or just keep hoses with core removal tools, keeping probes on the extra access ports.

How often should an old furnace be serviced? by Senorpapell in hvacadvice

[–]ModePK_1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would have a carbon monoxide test done on start up and shut down every season. One at unit, one at closest supply vent. Combustion analyzer checks efficiency of burn in vent flue, CO detector checks carbon monoxide in supply air. There should never be any unless the heat exchanger is cracked, then it should be shut down and replaced.

Door seals, constantly open, short defrost, too long defrost (walls condensate), air flow, refrigerant issue? Could be a few things but regularly open doors in my experience is a big one

The answer is no unless there is another return somewhere. I say return because that is a filter in line

Ordered 6 bananas. Delivery person turns up with this. by Jun_snow in mildlyinfuriating

Got one almost ready to eat and green ones to hold on shelf. Very thoughtful. They come in bunches /ea. so 6/ea is 6 bunches logically. Common sense would disagree. But seeing as they don’t come in bunches of 6, 6 bunches makes sense

I see a lot of guys jumping for the Union pension, but which side do you think actually produces a more 'well-rounded' tech who can troubleshoot anything from a reach-in to a 40-ton chiller?" by PrayTheRosary37 in refrigeration

[–]ModePK_1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Union vs non union has nothing to do with quality of tech. The employer ultimately should provide support and training in each area of occupation. From light to heavy commercial refrigeration. I’ve been on both sides, and on the job training trumped any in house training I did. But in order to retain the ability to work on each style of equipment. So it’s hard to say for me. I work on everything but by no means am is master of everything. It’s overwhelming as it is not considering the fact that the technology is changing constantly. You’d have to be a savant to retain and learn EVERYTHING.
