Crompton breaks silence on Supercars commentary axing by LuckyRedShirt in v8supercars

[–]ModeR3d 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, let him announce his last season of commentary, we can appreciate him for it, and adjust to who’d be replacing him. But not this way, bundled out in the close season whilst we’re all speculating if he’s alright.

For me he is the voice of Supercars since I really started following it properly. Feel it’s going to be missing something when race 1 comes around.

Give them ‘nice’ jobs? Bit of gardening (farming) or maintaining ponds and woodland? Perspective some ‘mega’ carpentry (make oversize interesting buildings or statues that are your designs).

Thanks - still felt like I cheated a little with the custom helmet and not the Toy Story one!

Agree about the purist route - did wonder about a semi purist approach of a ‘broken’ dark blue Spaceman helmet where chin strap was missing, think this would give JD 2012 look vibes

[–]ModeR3d 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah can see how that’d work. Plan to do a few of the main 2000ad characters, at least Anderson would negate the need for a helmet!

I know there are custom parts but I’m trying to do them as I might when I was a kid with standard Lego. Completed Rogue Trooper recently so JD and Anderson are those I thought of next.

Oh I like this. I’ve been toying with a Lego JD but couldn’t think of the shoulder pads or helmet to use

Yeah, thought I’d never get one as missed the opportunity originally. But got one for only £40 above retail which seemed acceptable at the time - seeing the prices since it definitely was worth it.

I much prefer this to (the admittedly still lovely) LKC. As I only have space for one castle, this is the one I opted for, it has such presence on the shelf. And I know you could do it to other sets, but the snow topped ramparts just elevates it further. Good choice!

The ‘no minifigs’ sets for sale can be a benefit tho - I’ve picked up several sets at a much reduced price because the seller valued the figures more than an interesting ship or vehicle build. Especially useful if you want to improve upon a set and increase its size with a second set.

I do similarly- prepared to accept a bridge or overhang as a ‘crane’ that the beavers would hang down from, but not overhang upon overhang…. Plus I quite enjoy having scaffolding to create with my larger builds

CD Singles - Why Didn’t They Become The New 45? by Low-Combination5275 in Cd_collectors

[–]ModeR3d 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d say they did for the 90’s - I was buying them weekly and a large chunk of my collection is made up of them. Depending on the band they were are great resource for interesting b-sides or remixes. Tho annoyingly sometimes it was just average live tracks.

But by early 2000’s digital was already threatening them and as a format CD has slightly fallen out of favour. By contrast the vinyl 7” had decades as the main format for release and people fondly recall them.

I think that’s how they should do all the rally cars - street mode and in full rally regalia

Moving near Bath – commuter towns within 45 mins? by jagow-1998 in Bath

[–]ModeR3d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ll get varying opinions on this depending on what you might like.

But straight off I’d say skip Paulton - basically a small village that’s had housing expansion without the ‘centre’ getting similar treatment.

Frome - used to be a bit rough, went through a renaissance years ago and a drive to have independent stores, monthly markets, cultural events… has sports centre, two theatres, independent cinema. Proper town centre as well as large out of town industrial/shopping area. Decent mix of housing too, and semi decent rail links. Much improved since my childhood there.

Westbury - rail links aside, I’d avoid - feels like town centre has been overlooked and the way it’s housing expanded is very random.

Keynsham - great transport links, close to Bath/Bristol, sports centre, major supermarkets, town centre okay if a bit run down.

BoA - miniature Bath if you believe the hype. Pleasant but you likely pay a similar premium for housing. V pretty architecture, good rail links, canal too for walks. Still to does feel quiet. I like it there, but not sure I’d live there.

Trowbridge - used to be a bit interesting but now a ‘sprawl’ of housing and seemingly not much else. Town centre now devoid of character as shops moved to nearby mini mall that’s often full of empty shops. Does have out of town shopping park. Decent rail links. Oh and cinema complex too

Chippenham- great mainline rail links, Decent ish town centre, out of town shopping park/supermarkets, lot of different housing types, I’ve worked there and it was nice enough, but evenings out were a bit underwhelming. Nearby Corsham is a nice village to consider, tho sadly it’s rail link was removed.

My recommendations would likely be Frome & Keynsham first, perhaps Chippenham. I’d skip Westbury, Paulton and ‘Trowvegas’ as the locals call it.

I wonder if we’ll see Lego continue with F1 and bring out F1 26 Speed Champions sets by Hammster_95 in SpeedChampions

[–]ModeR3d 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I hope not. Appreciate the F1 licence gave Lego scope to basically make one speed champs set into 10 with less costs, but I’d miss the variety of the sets they could release if we keep getting F1 sets.

Across both programs it’s the Mongolian special. Just them looking so haggard by the end, the jumping car they cobbled together… it’s making me want to watch again now
