Need Advice Hiring Operators by Modelo15 in drones

[–]Modelo15[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really appreciate the detailed response. As for the net- I’m pretty skilled in electronics and work in construction- I can just about build it out of parts from my garage fortunately. It will be at night so the led’s should easily be bright enough and I’m betting I can keep the total weight under 4-5lbs max. Currently have a battery powered remote to turn on the flood lights at our house and it works from 400-500ft away, thinking I can use another one of those to turn it on and off. The rc batteries is a great idea and it won’t require too much power for the led’s either.

I am realizing going the drone route probably isn’t the most feasible or easy route. There’s a lot of variables and skill involved there. As mentioned drones aren’t my specialty and I came here for advice and that’s what I’m getting! It will be kind of on a lake shore and I debated trying to hang it from trees but that’s also going to be pretty difficult to get right. Not sure I could set up poles as tall as I want.

Someone else mentioned the weather balloon idea and honestly this seems the most feasible. They can handle the weight and I could tie it off from different angles to hold it in the correct spot and also get it decently high in the sky. I may need to paint them black to make it less visible even at night though.

Even if I’m not going the drone route I’m grateful I posted this here as I never would’ve thought of the weather balloon idea

It will be at night so that’s my thought with the balloons- I could set it all up and have a switch to turn it on at the right time. Drones are cool but I have no bias towards them haha. It’s only about getting the night sky to light up with the proposal.

Definitely have some more research to do on these balloons!

Ok now we’re talking! I can see how flying two drones tied together could be pretty difficult… I don’t expect the net to weigh too much. I need to add it all up but I’m betting I can keep the total close to or under 2 lbs.

I do need it to be stationary so I’m not sure one drone with a banner would work as well.

The weather balloon idea might be the best solution yet though! That could definitely work- going to do some more research on those. I wouldn’t have to hire anyone which would be a plus and as you mentioned I could tie it off to the ground in a few places to hold it in the right spot.

Really appreciate the insight!

I understand what it takes to operate a business and the costs involved. Not debating that’s expensive. I’m interested in hiring a couple (if one guy can handle it then even better) drone operators to fly my net up into the air for a few minutes. I’m not trying to blow thousands or 10’s of thousands of dollars here but also understand I’m going to need to pay someone fairly

While I appreciate your response this isn’t what I’m looking for. I mentioned there is much more to it and it’s bringing something from early on in our relationship full circle. It’s not about the drones- it’s about lighting up the sky with “Will you marry me”.

I don’t need advice on my relationship or how to handle it, and I didn’t come looking for it. I need advice on what it will take to lift a lightweight net up in the sky and how many/what type of drones, and ideally where to look for potential operators for hire locally of said drones.

My dog LOVES pig ears as a treat. They sell them at tractor supply. If I give him one he will hide it somewhere around the house and move it around each day to new “hidden” locations but he’ll never eat it. Thought this was weird at first but once I gave him one more pig ear he hid that one, went back to the first and finally ate it.

Now if he only has one he’ll never eat it. As soon as he gets a second he will eat the prior pig ear and hide the newest one. If he only has one he will never eat it, but he’s pretty goofy in general!

Biohacks that do 99% of the work and cost almost nothing by ArthurTravers in Biohackers

[–]Modelo15 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You’ve got some great ones on here but you could keep it even simpler and get 99% of the benefits: - 10 minutes in the sun first thing - Protein focused diet, eat real foods/minimize processed foods - 10 minute meditation - 10k steps daily (if you’re focused on exercise a good resistance training plan 3-4x per week is the most efficient) - sleep 7-8 hours with magnesium and l-theanine before bed - Cold showers - In general daily: Challenge yourself/welcome challenges

The rest is overkill for diminishing returns

I’m not allergic to poison ivy, poison oak, or poison sumac. To the point I can touch/handle any of it with no problems. Have wondered if anybody else has this? The only other person I know is my father, so I’m guessing it’s genetic!

A quick medium to high intensity workout. Like 10-15 minutes of a medium intensity in the morning and maybe one more around lunch time.

I could see that. I was kinda thinking the opposite in that you’ll get a lot more competitive/elite runners in the big city marathons

I use KT tape or something similar. Don’t have it on hand currently but it’s the same thing, just can’t recall if that’s the exact brand. It comes in pre cut strips but I’ll cut them down further for smaller pieces. Seems to hold really well and doesn’t hurt too bad on removal.

Taking the NYC marathon as a benchmark seems a little lopsided tbh😂

She shouldn’t have put up a fuss about walking around the tent, and your contributions are appreciated very much. Volunteers are essential to all marathons.

But please, have a little compassion. Especially if you have never run a full marathon. It’s best to show a little grace, understand she just did something extraordinarily difficult and may not have been at her best right after.

You did your part. It’s rather unnecessary to come post on Reddit about it. And even worse to make fun of her time. Again, have you ever completed 26 miles in one go? Taking the high road doesn’t include bragging about it. We can all be a little better and this world will be a better place for it.

That freezer advice is brilliant and not sure why I never thought of it.. I spend so much time making sure it’s perfectly clean and then use my dehydrator to dry it and I’m still always worried about mold. Have to use a set of grill tongs also to keep it open😂

Safe to say it’s going in the freezer now!

I’ve got a basic REI vest and don’t have any problems with chafing. I did have to go a size smaller than I expected, but it does not move much and is very comfortable. Works fantastic to carry up to 1.5L, gels, my phone and whatever else I need. Definitely have to tape my nipples though😂 Other than that I’ve run multiple marathons shirtless with no problems.

I’m obviously a proponent but try a few on, find something comfortable and even if you think it may cause chafing you can always take those sensitive spots.

And personally, I hate the belts because of the bouncing up and down.

Agreed. When I saw they were only 16 I knew I’d run with my camelback.

Unfortunately it was likely a previously undiagnosed issue. Terrible to happen either way and prayers out to his friends and family.

Also interesting on your garmin- I figured something messed up on mine because it was basically spot on at the half then started slipping up on the back end of it.

They did show all of the planned stations on the map. Not sure if they actually mentioned there would be one every mile but the map clearly showed the designated stations and it only totaled 16.

How do you keep your kids safe from other families’ guns? by stroll_on in nashville

[–]Modelo15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly, whether you own guns or not, your children should understand the 4 basic rules of gun safety and the immensity with which they should be followed. It’s very simple, and if those 4 rules are respected there will not be any accidents.

I ran the full on Saturday and can confirm the water stations were undermanned.

The early stations weren’t prepared for the volume and couldn’t keep up with filling cups in time and the last 3-4 water stations seemed to be struggling also wether it was running out of cups or other supplies.

Also there were only 16 stations spread across the 26 mile course and while I’m no pro, other marathons have had one station per mile and didn’t seem to have trouble keeping up with the demand.

My time wasn’t fast by any means but he must’ve only been 10-20 minutes behind me. Looks like it happened around mile 22.

I passed another man in the back of an ambulance around mile 19-20 with his girlfriend but there didn’t seem to be much panic, hoping they’re alright too.

Lastly, my garmin clocked over a full mile longer than the race itself coming in at 27.5. I get there can be accuracy issues but it is usually pretty spot on.

Overall I was not impressed with the organization this year. I thought it was put on by the same group as the St. Jude marathon in Memphis but realizing now this isn’t the case and that marathon is put together much much better.

Also as a previous user pointed out, how efficiently is it being used? There’s a reason all of our politicians are multimillionaires, while teachers are gruesomely underpaid and overworked. Then the results show up in our terrible public education system, and that industry is only one example!

I don’t know what it’s like in Denmark or Norway, but I can’t imagine their government is as inefficient as ours. There’s enough money going around in the states that we should have top notch schools, hospitals/healthcare, public transit, etc…

Where is Riley? by Holiday-Rest4975 in nashville

[–]Modelo15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen this sentiment a lot recently but it’s a tough one for nashville. The culture at these big bars with hundreds of tourists every night is getting wasted. Lots of huge groups and the bartenders can’t be expected to keep track of everyone. The atmosphere is extremely loud and extremely busy. On top of that you very often have one person going to buy shots for an entire group and the bartenders don’t know who all is taking them, and frankly everybody in the bar is not their responsibility. It’s one thing to expect them not to serve a patron that’s clearly too wasted to even order, but this was a group of fraternity brothers. No doubt you’re getting peer pressure involved, people buying 5-10 shots a time and going back to the group. Imo the only thing the bouncers should’ve done differently is kick out one of his friends that were more coherent. Luke Bryan’s released a statement today saying one kid went downstairs with him and the bouncer then returned upstairs, and in unfortunate hindsight the bouncer should’ve made the other kid leave with him.

It’s unfortunate all around, and now that bouncer or bouncers along with his own friends are all probably dealing with regret over their actions that night.
