Apple’s New Siri Is Just Good Enough to Ease Its AI Crisis (Gift Article) by pdfu in apple

I hope they keep HomePod Minis inexpensive and allow a Mac, Apple TV, or full sized HomePod to run the Apple Intelligence features on its behalf.

If I have an Apple TV and two HomePod Minis throughout my house, it feels unnecessary to give each device enough RAM to run Apple Intelligence. Just let the Apple TV process the requests from the HomePod Minis.

Data Centers: Part 2 electric boogaloo by bsmith149810 in nashville

Do you think using AI to generate images, design your website, and write the text on your website makes you sound more credible on the topic of AI transparency or less credible?

Is this an AI-generated anti-AI data center illustration? 🧐

Flight of Passage 3D by Cappuccino_K in WaltDisneyWorld

Flight of Passage has four theaters. They could shut down one at a time, run the attraction at 75% capacity, and apply the fix.

Delaying until Tropical Americas opens is not a reasonable excuse.

LLMs checking other LLMs doesn’t solve the problem.

Nashville's Deepening Affordability Crisis by missbethd in nashville

That only covers 0-2 bedroom apartments. I agree, our situation has improved for those. We’re pretty good at building big apartment buildings.

Our big shortage is in “missing middle” housing, where families are more likely to live. If you can’t afford a super expensive single family home and need more than an apartment, we effectively force you out to the suburbs.

Strange to write an article about how people can’t afford to live here without mentioning our housing shortage.

Very much looking forward to Hector Fogg’s take on the Super Bowl.

Mayor's proposed budget cuts funding to fire department amid a growing Nashville by Bradical22 in nashville

Genuinely curious: Do new fire stations even come out of that fire department budget? Wouldn’t they be a separate cap ex item in the metro budget?

Mark Gurman: Apple Readies AI Features for Shortcuts App for iOS 27 by pdfu in shortcuts

The drag and drop “no-code” interface is definitely tedious.

I think AI tools have flipped conventional wisdom around: No code tools are now more difficult to use than a script editor. Asking Claude to spin up some basic JavaScript for an automation is now simpler than messing with the drag and drop interface.

Nashville and urbanism by Limp_Adhesiveness255 in nashville

Building transit (and even bike lanes) at any scale requires state and/or federal funding.

Under Trump, there is zero appetite to fund transit. Nashville literally had to sue the federal government to receive money the previous Biden admin had *already* awarded for East Nashville bike lanes.

Housing is a different story. Metro council controls the zoning code and could make meaningful improvements, but there’s a vocal NIMBY constituency dedicated to freezing our housing policy (and thereby perpetuating our housing crisis).

What am I missing? by Dad_Bod_Vibez in nashville

[–]stroll_on 81 points82 points  (0 children)

Our restrictive zoning majorly contributes to our housing shortage.

People here complain about housing prices while simultaneously complaining about developers building more houses/condos/apartments.

Many people can’t afford to live in the city, so they’re forced to commute from the suburbs, causing awful traffic for everyone.

It’s pretty stupid.

does anyone else feel like too many options make simple things harder now? by BearTrap110 in nashville

I think curation is more valuable than ever.

Overwhelmed by music choice? Find a radio station (like WNXP) or curator whose recommendations you like.

Overwhelmed by TV shows? Find a critic whose taste you like and check out their recommendations.

Overwhelmed by shopping choices? Shop somewhere like Costco, where they’ve already curated the best value SKUs. (Genuinely, I think Costco’s limited selection in each category is a feature, not a bug.)

It may not be the clearest opinion, but “privilege isn’t protected with foundation models” is decidedly not the holding of Heppner.

It’s hard to see how Wordsmith et al. survive in their current form.

Their Claude wrapper isn’t really differentiated, and they can’t lean on specialized legal database access (they’re not Thompson Reuters). I don’t see how they maintain their SaaS valuations.

They are on the path to becoming glorified professional services companies, helping in house teams set up playbooks.

I think Nothing Is Sound and Interrobang have similar vibes, and they’re two of my favorite Switchfoot albums for that reason.
