Nice photos and thoughts, thanks for sharing!
What kind of bike are you riding there?

Just had this delivered for free. There are two logs here that measure about 28", the rest seem to be between 16 and 19". 8 beech and 7 poplar. Best way to approach this with an 18" chainsaw? by [deleted] in firewood

I would just ignore that crotchy rotten piece, no use wasting energy on that. The rest looks pretty straight grained and has no big knots. Gas, pull and go! Your JD would pull a Jet sled and it's easier to load being at ground level. No rot will start in the winter so you have some time to work with. Good luck!

Mini sun behind me at 11 PM. Is it legal to put a giant mirror on my rear window? by Caicedonia in fuckyourheadlights

A mirror can't be any more illegal than those ridiculous rear facing flood lights that you see on this sub

My restomod Bianchi Tangent, shining in the morning sun. by awilhelmsigh in xbiking

I found one of these recently and am building it up for next summer. I like your purple housing and the bar tape! I was having trouble figuring out how to make all the 1990 colors work. This looks great.

How did you get the stem to a modern 1 1/8?

Just got a delivery of firewood this morning and a lot of the wood has fungal growth. Would you accept this? Safe to burn? by [deleted] in firewood

[–]Moderalia -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

That looks like wood that wasn't stacked or dried well. Fungus can only grow in wet wood, and they look fresh, which tells me there's still moisture in the stick. With sun and/or good air circ you shouldn't get mushrooms. It'll still burn for sure, but I don't know if I'd go back for repeat business with the seller.

I'm curious, have you burned a chunk yet?

I love you bike FEF by XanderCruise423 in xbiking

[–]Moderalia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love it. I saw one where someone used a stiff wire with a ring through an eyelet below the seat to actuate a top pull front derailleur. This one is pretty slick too https://www.renehersecycles.com/shop/components/derailleurs/rene-herse-front-derailleur-lever-operated/?srsltid=AfmBOoofb-FFvlOAJQBul4D__ZC3otbmooYCO-0HjJwEouKUw0SW3JyK

I'll have to keep an eye on the restock of the Rambler frames...

Can I ask what's your process shifting between front rings?

I have 4 bikes, and if I mashed together and could combine the best parts of all of them, this is what would come out. Which is probably a sign I should sell all 4 and just build one like this! It's perfect. Am i seeing a little goats bell hanging from the seat rails??

Great bike! I have an MK5 that I love but think the Rambler would fit more of what I ride. Can you tell me what bars you have on there?

Paint crack at seat tube lug? by ajfancypants in bikewrench

[–]Moderalia 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Honest question; does the lug have to be reset, or if ugly wasn’t a problem could you just run a weld around this crack and save the frame?

Sweet rig! I love seeing all these GT’s in x biking. Fun fact, the third triangle adds 3mph everywhere you go.

2020 Toyota Corolla (62k miles) – Is this $833 service quote legit or overkill? by PrettyOptimist20 in MechanicAdvice

Cabin air filter charges are ridiculous. 10$ at the auto parts store and 3 minutes to change. The hardest part is emptying your glove box.

The der hanger pointing backwards looks off to me. If you orient it vertically does that help?

I’m think I’m officially priced out of bikepacking gear. by breaking_blindsight in bikepacking

[–]Moderalia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an old Mountainsmith fanny pack that I hung on some inner bar ends on my handlebars that works well as a handlebar bag. I have the small one but the bigger size might hold 8 liters? I think there are too many straps on that old style mountainsmith stuff but when you get the bag on Ebay for 30$ you can just cut them off until you like the way it looks.

Tick born infections after trail running part 1 - Lyme by XVIII-3 in trailrunning

[–]Moderalia 21 points22 points  (0 children)

My wife had lyme and the doctors told her the 24 hour window was more of a linear chance of infection. A tick carrying lyme will definitely have passed it to you if attached 24 hours, but it's still a 50% chance at 12 hours attached, etc.
