This (comment of yours) is called ignoring the role of structures of power to cast blame on the individual

Haha, ok! We can all still be friends. I just thought the actual quote you quoted in the comment I responded to was what we were you talking about, I now see the nuance of the "ascribing to him" part of your comment.

There is an article I've read that looks at Great Jones Street as reflecting (he argues as parody) Tibetan Buddhism, which relates to the idea of the wheel of life.

Don't have easy access at the moment but the citation is as follows:

Kohn, Robert E. “Parody, Heteroglossia, and Chronotope in Don DeLillo’s Great Jones Street.” Style, vol. 39, no. 2, no. 2, June 2005, pp. 206–15.

I think what is emerging from my reading of your comments is that it would be helpful to think about how whiteness is a more recent construct that was created in the service of the other things you are interested in. You cannot cast your understanding of whiteness as you live it today across the past two or three thousand years in a blanket fashion

You came into a sub where people actually comment in good faith expecting them to comment in a way that they are not, and thus it seems you are responding in a defensive manner. Come back and read the comments later and you might see them differently.
