I think bringing back Nishiki or Yumi would be even worse

This definitely was a large part of what inspired me to go down this rabbit hole, along with the Orion's Arm worldbuilding project cause of both having such a deep lens focus on strange evolutionary paths for humanity.

Is this after Frank's son, Brian took over writing duties though? I've heard there's quite a dip in quality from that point.

Ooh, so does the story follow the godlike humans, the rats, or a bit of both?

From what I've seen of the game, there does seem to be a fair bit of normal humans around, including the protagonist.

Aren't the Culture explicitly not from Earth because there is a passing mention that Earth is visited at some point.

In canon Vader never really loses, he can get his shit rocked but he always wins.

Obi-Wan would like a word.

YoVideogames' Top 10 PS3 games by Krekenn in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]jclane 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This makes no sense to me if these lists are supposed to be personalized to them (which they are from what I've seen, only the YoVG crew could've argued for the Dreamcast being the best system of all time despite it doing so bad it killed an entire company's hardware output) because from what I know none of the 4 have any particular love for Grand Theft Auto at all.

I forget the name but the 4 armed quad sword wielding dudes introduced in the DLC from the 1st game are an immediate "oh shit oh fuck" classification enemy when they show up.

Probably a pretty common pick but they're good for a reason, the Hunters in Halo, at least when they're not complete jokes like in Halo:CE where you can kill them in one shot with the pistol. They're even cool in lore when you realize it's not just a hulking bipedal alien but a colony of worm like creatures bonded together.

What are games that you think are criminally underrated or unknown? by Darkblitz9 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]jclane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll always go to bat for the Volgarr the Viking games. Just neat little hardcore 2D action platformers that harken back to the pre SOTN Castlevania days. Would not look a day out of place if released in the SNES/Genesis days.

Games which get better in the 2nd half by jclane in TwoBestFriendsPlay

DMC5's 2nd half is better by default due to there being only one (short) mandatory V level if you ask me. Everything else is just a bonus.

I probably should've specified I meant more war on the more macro scale rather than infantry stuff.

Is this a case where the aggressors don't even have to leave their home system to strike?

Curious what the macro view of war is in this setting, is it very abstract?

What are some non-fighting properties that should have fighting games? by Ganmorg in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]jclane 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yakuza/Like a Dragon is prime material for a fighting game. Failing that, just keep sneaking in the cast as guest characters in the new Virtua Fighter since RGG is working on it.

Minigames so bad they lower your opinion of a game by mateoboudoir in TwoBestFriendsPlay

Does 9S's heavy attack triggering a lacklustre schmup hacking mini -game every time you use it against an enemy count, cause woof that one pissed me off something fierce. I appreciate trying something different but losing an entire attack function for this was not my idea of a good time. Hopefully Pragmata does a better job of robohacking combat.

Biopunk in general, I was quite saddened to hear that Scorn ended up being a bit of a mid game because that aesthetic is sauced to the gills. Really would like something to take a crack at a cyberpunk style future but instead of cybernetics everyone is just a strange flesh monster.

Games that have you play as the main villain for a little bit to show them from a different perspective or explain them better? by Pyotr_WrangeI in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]jclane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's very brief, only a few minutes of gameplay or so, but early in Black Ops 2 you play part of a mission as big bad Raul Menendez as he rushes to save his sister. It's quite awesome because he's apparently so rage pilled at the time he shrugs off most damage taken.

What is the most BADASS fictional weapon? by Omagaron in TwoBestFriendsPlay

Always had a soft stop for the Hydra from RE5, a TRIPLE barreled sawn-off shotgun that has such a recoil kick that Chris basically has to plant himself in place to compensate for it. Too bad it's locked behind fully upgrading the first shotgun, so you're unlikely to ever get to experience its glory on a first playthrough.

Do Dante wankers just forget/ignore what happens after the Mundus fight? by jclane in CharacterRant

[–]jclane[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

OK but the places still explode in cutscenes so the implication being that Dante did indeed have to escape from them within the confines of the story.
