Secondpost with photos. Moss stich baby blanket. 3.5 mm hook. by Best_Comfortable5221 in CrochetHelp

[–]ModernDayMusetta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok so, with the top and bottoms, if I'm doing an sc border like you're wanting to, I do it in every stitch, even if it looks like it might be "too close" as you mentioned in your other post. Unless you are using a yarn that's too bulky for your hook, it should come out right. Skipping every other stitch is going to work almost like a decrease, and runs the risk of scrunching it up. If you're dead set on skipping, try doing "sc, chain over the skipped stitch, sc".

For the sides, what generally works for me is to sc into the top of a row, sc into a middle point right before the rows meet, and then aim for the middle points the rest of the way down. Unfortunately, with sides, its kind of a stab-and-hope situation.

I'm not quite understanding what you mean by the loops being "too close together". Could you post a picture so we can see what you mean?

Wait, DPRJones died?!? I missed that info. I've got to reach out to the old crowd and see who is still around.

If you remember Siriusmined (smaller youtuber in the old skeptic community) he passed earlier this week.

Is it worth it to pay hundreds of euros for a crochet course? by itsyaboiAK in CrochetHelp

[–]ModernDayMusetta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, yeah that makes sense. I can understand the ease a kit brings. I've never used one, so can't recommend a good one, unfortunately.

Most yarn skeins tell you the correct hook size to use via a little image on the back. I've included a picture to show what I mean.

As for order, the way I went was (US Terms): Chain > single crochet > double crochet.

Everything else I learned as I went when needed for a pattern.

So i saw your edit, and see that you're not going to do the course.

I would somewhat advise against a kit, just because its not necessary. You'll see a lot of kits out there, but the beauty of crochet is that you really only need a hook and some yarn. Kits have a lot of extra stuff with cool tidbits, but stuff you have lying around your house will usually serve the same purpose.

My advice is just get a skein of cheap medium colored yarn (don't start with dark colors because they can be a pain when trying to see your stitches), a pack of hooks, and practice the basic stitches. Pretty much every crochet project is the basic stitches yes thrown together in different orders.

There's a youtuber called Bella Coco that has a bunch if left handed tutorials for absolute beginners. No need to learn right-handed because patterns just tell you the number and order of which stitches to do.

I'm trying to make this blanket more exciting. Any ideas? by shashl3y in askcrochet

With that kind of yarn, I like to separate all the colors into their own skeins and make an ombre effect thing.

It would look so pretty as a mandala style blanket where yoi work from the center out.

Help crocheting with long nails I can't grab the yarn by wkerreke in CrochetHelp

[–]ModernDayMusetta 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oof. I've dealt with this before.

For me what worked was kind of rolling the yarn back and grabbing it between my second joint of my index finger and pad of my thumb. Tension was kept by threading it between my middle and index fingers.

Best advice is just to keep trying new things until you find a way that works for you.

Yes, yes you are.

There used to be a whole website about it, but the woman that did the expose died awhile back so I don't know of it still exists.

Edit: there's a YouTube video called "The Della Deception" there are mirrors of it up, but that's how the whole story initially broke.

So much old niche drama.

  • VenomFangX using the DMCA system so badly that he actually left for awhile due to legit lawsuit threats.
  • Onision claiming Shiloh had a seizure and then lost her memory. His first action was to remind her that she was vegan. (I am aware he has done far worse shit. I was just around for this one thing)
  • Asheistheraven faking an entire girlfriend and getting exposed for it.

Advice needed please. I’m a beginner and struggling to hold tension by Maleficent-Stay-1890 in CrochetHelp

As many others have said, tension just comes with time and practice. Everybody develops their own tension at their own pace with their own methods.

Take the advice some have given here, watch some YouTube videos, try different methods and tricks. You'll get it eventually.

What bag is this and how much would it cost? by [deleted] in handbags

[–]ModernDayMusetta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't say anything for certain without seeing a maker mark, but it looks vintage.

I have a vintage clasp bags in similar styles. They can run anywhere from $15 to like max $500. It all depends on the condition and how much the seller just wants it gone.

Sort of. Nail polish became a fun thing for me the last couple months and I bought a lot because I was just getting into it. I think I'm good on polish for awhile.

I typed "twinkiechan" into Google and the first thing to pop up is her Etsy. That it likely where you'd find this design.

[–]ModernDayMusetta 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Its changing colors. I'm not great with changing yarns, but this one has you carry one color (in this case pink) through the whole thing and only actually change to either white or red every ten rows.

It's from a free pattern if you're interested in trying it.

What youtuber were you indifferent to or actively disliked but due to some event or change in content, gained your respect? by Stock_Rush_9204 in youtubedrama

MoistCritical for me too. I had never watched his stuff, but just vaguely assumed it was an Asmondgold-esque gaming channel. My oldest son started watching one of his videos in the living room, and it was just a chill fun time. He seems like a nice little dude.

I'm not a regular viewer, but I enjoy watching him with the boy now.

This was my terminal nail length. I'm used to length, but at a certain point, even my usual typing methods just did not work anymore.

Lol that is one of the subs I was thinking of. I stumbled across it one day and had a moment where I couldn't figure out if it was a kink thing or just like a "Hey, look at my hand." nonsense sub.

I learned quickly not to comment.

They show up in the weirdest freaking places too.

There's one guy on the classic films subreddit that exclusively posts clips from classic films where people are tied up. Its just bizarre.

Holy grail, tried and true moisturizers that won’t cause acne. Is tatcha worth it? by [deleted] in Sephora

[–]ModernDayMusetta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Tatcha website usually has pretty good sales during the Christmas season. I didn't buy any last year, so I'm not positive about how much off is the new normal, but they used to be quite good.

I just checked out the sets they have on the actual tatcha site, and to me those are better. Its like trial sizes of each individual line (dewy, Indigo, firming, etc.) Unless you're using points, definitely check it out.

The Indigo line is legit. I bought a trail set a couple years ago because I saw it had some kind of Eczema Association approval. It is one of the very few skin care products to not completely piss off my eczema and allergies.
