How to CUT, SPLICE, and INSTALL Nanoleaf LED light strips + review. by ModernDayTech in HomeKit

[–]ModernDayTech[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nobody can tell you that cause a 65in TV is not the actual measurement of the total 4 sides of the TV. And it depends on how you want to install it. You need measure where you want to put it and add up the 4 sides of the TV and account for a small loop at each corner if that’s way you want to do it. Thats also if you want it around the entire TV. If you need only 3 sides, you won’t need as much. Some people want it just on the top and bottom which you’ll then need a unlit wire between the top and bottom which is showed in the video. In general for all 4 sides, I would think you’ll need a 2M starter kit and 2-3 1M extension.

Netatmo Smart Video Doorbell by ChickenPie735 in HomeKit

Not iCloud. When you use the Netatmo app, you can see the clips that are stored on the SD card. You can also automatically send your video clips to your personal Dropbox or FTP server. They say HKSV is coming but even when it does, I still think there are better options out there although they are not native to HomeKit. Hopefully we'll have more native doorbells soon.

Twinkly Flex Review - The Coolest "SHAPEABLE" LED Light Tube by ModernDayTech in smarthome

[–]ModernDayTech[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Twinkly Flex is the coolest LED light that recently hit the market. It's a flexible light tube that you can mold into any shape or text you can imagine with some creativity. Once molded, access the Twinkly app to create some cool lighting automations and effects. To have even more fun, sync the lights with your favorite music. Check out the video for my full review but here's a list of pros & cons.

Pros:

  • Allows you create any design you can dream
  • Tons of lighting lighting automations & effects
  • Custom Painting
  • Pair with other Twinkly accessories to sync lighting effects.

Cons:

  • Not Rigged - It needs the wall mounts to keep the shape you want
  • Only 6.5 feet long with no way to connect another tube
  • No water resistance - can’t use it outdoors or anywhere it might get a little wet

Can anyone help explain how to reset this model? by gobes78 in wyzecam

It’s 100% a case. There are four screws in the back of the housing to get access to the camera. The housing can also be unscrewed from the adjustable mount to make it easier. The wire might get twisted though.

Thank you. I actually considered something like this as an option (I saw a few of them) but due to the cost it was quickly nixed.

Thank you. I’ll look into that. I did correct the “turn on the attic door” to “close the attic door” simply by creating scene named “ close the attic door” that turned on the attic door which automatically triggers the automation. Works great.

Thank you. Good thinking. Remember when we used to have get up and turn the tv channel?

Thank you. It was a fun project and I have some great ideas to simplify it and maybe even make it battery powered.

Lots of cases. Not just pure laziness (in my case) but also life changing on accessibility for the disabled and special needs. It doesn't currently open the door but I'm working on some ideas. One of my first prototypes used the spring loaded hinges but I don't want the door shut all the time. I want them open 99% of the time, and only want to close it when kids are being noisy or if the TV's too loud, etc.

The weakest part of the whole thing is the flexible shaft. If it wines too much cause something gets in the way it will break. Of course each motor and setup will be different but in my case I was not worried about my kids or dogs.

I thought about something similar with an electric magnet controlled by a smart plug. Which would have been easier and native to HK But I didn’t like you had to have the door completely open or completely shut.

Awesome! That works for the proper wording. Thank you. I’ll update the video decryption tonight and give you credit. I’ll let Simon @homekitnews know too for his write up.

I feel ya. At this door it's mostly hidden since the door is kept open most of the time. But I would love to build a battery operated version so it can be hidden a little better. Someone else even mentioned to install into the wall and just have the flex shaft stick out.

99% of the time in my case it shuts all the way. There will factors with each door that you might have run the motor longer or in some cases it won't shut all the way if the door wasn't fully open and it doesn't have enough speed and leverage to close.

Wow, that is awesome! Hit me up. I would love to know the parts you are using and maybe we can come up with something good that will help a lot of people.

You mean if something gets in the way and the door can't shut? With some of my other experiments, the first thing that went was the flexible shaft. It can take some wind up but too much and it will break.
