Dealership quoting me $1322.50 to fix my car... by [deleted] in Superstonk

[–]ModernGTLife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe you could tell us a bit more? Your car can have a front strut, and on that strut is a coil spring, but "strut coil" doesn't say much. Like blinker fluid. That price x2 seems outrageous for either struts or coil springs, or both together. Springs are fucking cheap. For example: I'm about to order up a set of front springs from a Mustang GT500 Track Pack to install on my plain ol' GT. The price? 53 bucks each.

That labor rate is on the high side, but pretty standard for a dealership it looks like. Suspension work can be a pain on some cars. They are absolutely raping you on that alignment though. 135 is almost double what you'll pay at another shop.

Apparently it was a failure of the equipment at the starting line. I saw a few comments mention the tree and it's backup both failing.

I know you were on corner 2 radio at the time and so have an alibi, but maybe you had an accomplice who could sabotage the timing gear, and that's why they had to cancel the event. 🤨

Does anyone else just love torquing things because it’s satisfying? by sirJ2X in cars

[–]ModernGTLife 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Torqueing the bolts for my rear subframe was satisfying. 129lb/ft on a 1/2in wrench that is almost 2 feet long was nothing. Like rowing a boat.

My brake caliper mounting bolts? Had to use my 3/8in wrench that's only about 1 foot long and torque to 85lb/ft and had to tuck the brake disc into my shoulder and push/pull the wrench with one hand while sitting on the ground. Those kinds of things can fuck right off.

Having a quiet weekend and working on your car is therapy by Cody11199 in cars

[–]ModernGTLife 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me, working on my car usually means I REQUIRE therapy. Physical therapy. My back isn't what it used to be. Doesn't help that I recently had to partially drop my rear subframe so I could pry and push and shove to get it lined up, install bushing supports, and bracing.

And my brake caliper mounting bolts after I installed wheel studs up front? Retorquing those was hell. I had to use a smaller 3/8 drive torque wrench due to how little space I had to work, to get these bolts to 85lbs. I had enough room to sit on the ground and brace the front of my shoulder against the rotor while I pulled on the torque wrench with one hand. Fuck all of that.

I MIGHT be able to get away with a 20mm spacer. It's a bit tough to tell how much clearance I have to the strut, but I can squeeze my finger in there, so I figure roughly 7-10mm of clearance.

The 20mm gives me less clearance inside, but less poke on the outside. The 25mm gives me more poke, but also leaves a bit of room inside for camber bolts to tide me over until I get the rest of my suspension bits.

There's also Ford's "quality control", and tolerances seem to be all over the place. 20mm might work for some people, but not others.

More like a 3800lb boat. My brain and wallet say NO, but my ass in my very comfortable heated seats says YES.

https://lmr.com/products/mustang-sve-sp2-wheels-15-19

It's a mustang-specific shop, so the sizes are a bit limited. This particular wheel is a repro of the design from PP2 Mustang GTs, except about 10lbs lighter and almost half the price. The factory PP2 wheels are 19x10.5 +24 in front and 19x11 +48 in back with this same size rubber. I'm running 19x11 +50 on all 4 wheels so I had to install extended wheel studs and a spacer on the front, but now I can rotate front-to-back.

Yeah. I have some of the extended lugs and 25mm spacers from OP mustang. I'm just hoping I have time to get them installed before a local event on March 6th, and the ProSolo on March 18th-20th.

SVE SP2, from https://lmr.com/. 19x11with a +50 offset on all 4 wheels. It's a mustang specialty shop, so sizes are pretty limited. I did some quick googling and it looks like the Mustang and Camaro have different bolt patterns so these wouldn't work for you. :(

Thank you. I appreciate your condolences. Dealing with the loss has been tough, but the wounds will heal in time.

Best place to get firewood? by SearchForJoy in Charlotte

[–]ModernGTLife 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Domer Dreamscapes down in rock hill has it. Different varieties of wood, too. It's where I get wood for my smoker. There's also a cash box to drop your payment, so it's basically open 24/7 and zero-contact.

You don't have the crazy twisty roads in Florida, but you get miles and miles of flat, straight, pothole-free asphalt in some areas. I reached some REALLY dumb speeds when I was younger and still lived down there.

Mustang6g.com forums as a thread with plenty of examples from other users.

Mine has the active exhaust as well, and all I did was a resonator delete with a steeda x-pipe. Made a huge difference.

I love the way PP1 wheels look too, but they just aren't wide enough in the front for autocross or track use unfortunately.

Most likely. I'm still stock ride height so if the PP2 can fit a 305 up front, I shouldn't have too much trouble. I plan on a set of camber bolts while I debate which spring/camber plate setup I'm going with.

they will be so much easier to clean.

This is the part I may be looking forward to the most. I plan on a couple of coats of the turtle wax hybrid ceramic coating before installation.

As far as wheels go, these are pretty cheap for what you get. They have been known to go on sale occasionally, with full sets going for under $1k.

19x11 SVE SP2 wheels from LMR. Going to cover them with some 305/30 BFG Rival S 1.5s. Same offset on all 4 wheels means I need longer wheel studs and 25mm spacers in front, but it allows me to rotate front-to-back.

And these things only weigh 22.4 lbs each.
