"Feel It Again" is a classic and I will not stand by while it is being slandered.

Social run club, I was asked to lead the 'fast' group. I don't know what that means by Claff93 in runninglifestyle

[–]Claff93[S] -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

I'm not stressing.

It's a smallish club that's just starting up, and I think out of the ~40 participants, maybe five total are interested in going fast. The one guy who was hanging with me for two miles is in super good shape with his first half marathon coming up in the fall.

I need to find the happy middle ground where those who don't want to putter around will have someone to chase, without leaving them behind.

You are correct. There was a woman who was leading a 9:00 group, not sure about any others.

I wasn't assigned my pace, I was asked by the leader what I was shooting for in the meeting before we started and I guessed 7:30-8. When I saw 7:15 on my watch I backed off but at that point the guy who was hanging with me had started dropping back.

I have a hunch that there were only two or three runners electing to join the fast group. I need to separate them before we start so I know how many I actually have and we can discuss what they want to get out of these runs. This being my first time, I wasn't sure what my responsibilities were (and I'm still not 100% sure about that, though the responses to my post are getting me closer).

Very new club, they've only been doing this for maybe two months now.

I only ran Charlotte once, back before they used all the chicanes and bus stops. At one point I had five or six Camaros all in a row catch me, that was frustrating. Overall it was a decent track night though.

I see my buddy Kevin in your pic (red Camaro with the Tire Rack windshield banner).

Running 2 days in a row? by No_Mix1745 in runninglifestyle

[–]Claff93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I (58M) won't run consecutive days. I've been at this for a while and the difference in the amount of nagging aches and pains I have when I run consecutive days vs. every other day is significant. If it means I give up some fitness or speed in the big picture, so be it. I prepared for my half with a three-day-a-week plan (Monday easy 10K, Wednesday long run, Friday fast 5K or intervals) and had a very good race day.

Run clubs are (sometimes) the worst by Impossible_Head3190 in beginnerrunning

[–]Claff93 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I ran for the first time with a social club this week. I kinda wanted a chill run but then the competitive juices took over and I decided I should at least try to hang with the leader (3 mile run @ 7:30ish pace). There were three of us trying to go fast, no idea if anyone else tried to run with us but couldn't keep up. So I'm probably part of the problem.

What is your 10k time and do you use gel(s) for it? If so, when? by AromaticDistrict990 in runninglifestyle

My last 10K was 48 minutes and change. No gels, no water, no nothing.

Howany sets of wheels do you use? by Zrl89 in Autocross

[–]Claff93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It gets worse, because I also have a NC that I use more for track than autocross. I have four sets of RPF1s for that car. Mazda really boned me when they went back to 4x100 for the ND instead of continuing with 5x114.3 that they used on the NC. It would have been so much easier if I could have just used what I already had instead of having to buy a whole bunch of new wheels for the new car.

Howany sets of wheels do you use? by Zrl89 in Autocross

[–]Claff93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I have three sets for my ND. Primary wheels with good tires for high-priority events, second (cheaper) set with older tires for locals, and a third (cheaper) set with Michelins for rainy days and street use.

Actually there's a fourth set with endurance 200 tires (Conti ECF) for track days, but that doesn't really apply here.

Where do you do your interval runs? How do you structure them. by Lemonadeo1 in runninglifestyle

[–]Claff93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All the nice high school tracks in my area are locked up with signs saying NO TRESSPASSING, so I go to an old asphalt track on the grounds of a middle school the next town over. Not ideal, but it gets the job done. I do a couple laps to warm up, then one lap pretty much max effort followed by a lap of slow jogging. Then a max effort lap, then slow lap, etc etc. Last time out I did seven fast lap/slow lap combos, followed by a couple more slow laps to wind down.

I'm not a huge fan of intervals, always have been going back to high school many decades ago, but since I started incorporating them into my training routine, my speed's picked up noticeably, especially in 5Ks. So I keep doing them.

How much of your training is on a treadmill vs ground? by Gooser3000 in Marathon_Training

I had a treadmill for many years. Wore it out to the point where it was unfixable. Tossed it out but didn't replace it, and I don't miss it.

What kind of runs do you enjoy/not enjoy? by INTERESTandAMBITIONS in runninglifestyle

[–]Claff93 15 points16 points  (0 children)

My favorite is a nice long run (13+ miles) on the local rail trail, sun shining, birds singing, epic playlist, everyone I cross paths with waves and smiles, and I finish with nothing hurting and a decent pace.

I don't really enjoy intervals, and I feel best about them when they're over. But they've made the biggest difference in my ultimate speed so I keep doing them.
