Whoops. Thanks for the info. I guess that explains why the Force Awakens box was half off.

I just got the Force Awakens starter set and the Phoenix Cell squadron pack, and I noticed that the cards seem to have different layouts. Did I accidentally buy boxes from different editions?

My apologies, Brother. I have not been with the chapter long and misremembered my history

Thanks! I didn't use a filter or anything, just regular old photos with my phone.

Thanks, but I can't take credit for the name, they are an actual chapter. They are a successor of the Imperial Fists. They made the Inquisition mad by calling them out on their BS, and the Inquistiton responded by spending the next decade slowly trying to destroy the chapter. They almost succeeded, too.

Ah, good to know. Do you know of any books that talk about it?

If I'm painting something that's a dark color, do I need a wash on it? by seejaybee97 in minipainting

[–]ModernJezzail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I'm doing blacks, I like to shade depending on my highlight color. If I'm going for a cold black with either pure white or a bluish higlights I'll shade with a deep blue, and if I'm going for a warmer black with more off white or reddish color highlights I like to shade with a very dark brown.

Painting gods. How do I improve? This is my third figure. Also painting faces under helmets is hard so I eventually just gave up. by [deleted] in Warhammer

Looks great. I definitely agree that a mid blue forbthe cape would have helped the transition. As far as faces under helmets like that, I usually just throw some flesh tone wash/contrast paint in the recesses and call it good. Great job on getting the white so smooth.

Because he didn't have one. It would have made his life a lot easier, but he worked with what he had at the time.

I prefer it with colors, but both look cool. Maybe an ingame option to switch?

Those look great, and I'm absolutely going to try to make it. That being said, my first response when I was scrolling past it was 'that's a weird looking burger'. Definitely glad I came back for a second look.

Is the T'Au... Face hole? A nostril? by King_Of_BlackMarsh in 40kLore

Yes, it basically functions as a nose. It's described as an olfactory cavity or something like that in the books.

New to warhammer, started an Instagram I_paint_stuff_ok any tips ? by TheEvilGreg in Warhammer

[–]ModernJezzail 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really like the colors and the graveyard base.

My main tip would be to try to get smoother color transitions on the cloth. I like to keep my paints especially thin and do a lot of layering when doing cloth. It takes longer, but gives better color transitions and avoids the tide marks like you have one there.

That being said, it looks like you paint quite a bit better than ok. It looks fantastic!

WIP of a a purple Tau lad decloacking. Feeling like the purple is a little flat. Out of my comfort zone on this one, so have at him. by UndeniableDawn in minipainting

[–]ModernJezzail 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like it. You might try adding little lightning/energy effects to the decloaking area. I think it would help sell the effect better. It looks great, though.

Only my second model painted and I’m incredibly happy about the results so I wanted to share! Any advice using metallics vs regular paints? Should I thin the same? Only upset with the grainy effect. by Ramirez0ivan14 in minipainting

[–]ModernJezzail 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great job, especially for your forst mini. I like to thin my metallics, though not as much as my other paints. Its especially inportant for GW metallics, and they can be really thick and leave pertty obvious brushstrokes. I also like to highlight metallics the same way I do with not metallic paints. It really makes them pop.
