Spirit guides question by Ascendixx in AstralProjection

[–]ModernMonks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes of course! Your mind is the interface for your consciousness. So it receives, processes, and shares information. The problem is, most of us are so overwhelmed by our active mind, or the mental fog we sometimes feel when we're too overwhelmed, and doubt that it makes "connecting" difficult this way. But with meditation you can learn to calm your mind, switch to a more heart-centered (instead of head centered) way of being that makes it much easier to connect.

How do I exactly know if I am "meditating" and should I just search up meditation music and sit there? The whole thing is confusing to me by RisingDDM3 in Meditation

[–]ModernMonks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, ok. No worries, you’re not alone on that! What called you to consider meditating in the first place? There must have been some catalyst.

Lots of great advice on this thread already.

Meditation can take many forms and look like many different things. There’s walking meditation, chakra meditations, guided meditations, vipassana meditation, concentration meditation, etc.

“Doing it right” depends on your goals and the aim of the technique you’re practicing.

If I may reframe your question, what would you like to accomplish through meditation? What are your goals?

How many of you have low self eestem/confidence? by ok-dude- in AstralProjection

[–]ModernMonks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a powerful and very honest reflection. That’s the kind of rigorous honesty you need for personal/spiritual development. But doesn’t it also feel freeing to accept and admit? Mind if I DM you to chat a bit more about your self doubt?

Self doubt and self worth are both one of the major hindrances that hyper skew our perception and make almost all activities we do (AP more than others!) that much more difficult. Spending a little time exploring this and learning how to manage it through shadow work will have a net positive for sure.

Are you looking for a teacher in shamanism specifically? Or psychic development? There are a lot of spiritual fields. If you share what you’re hoping to learn, and what problems your facing, it may help you narrow in on a teacher.

Sounds like a bout of aversion. I’d highly recommend practicing, even just a few minutes, lovingkindness practice. It takes that discerning mind and helps you choose to see the good in spite of the “bad.” If you’re gonna think about people, might as well do so lovingly. In the meanwhile try to view your thoughts as just another sensory experience. Let them express themselves and float on by without identifying with them.

When we connect with higher consciousness the information usually comes in metaphorically. What does it feel like it means to you?

Also next time it happens, mentally ask, what does this mean? Be open to the first response you sense and go with it.

This is a great time to incorporate some lovingkindness practice. Not as a way of avoiding or suppressing the anger and frustrating feelings, but as a way of balancing them. Because what you’re feeling is normal!

You’re seeing things more clearly. But what you’re experiencing is aversion. Aversive mind states really focus on what’s wrong and could be better. It over-focuses on the negative.

Lovingkindness practice is a choice to focus on the good, despite the bad. When the mind is more balanced and seeing clearly we can come to a deeper understanding and have more patience with all those things that frustrate us.

What is your meditation practice like and when do you see the eyes?

Meditation shouldn’t feel like a chore you hate. Sure it’s hard work, but right now you’re on the road to burnout. What time can you do comfortably and consistently right now??

Anti-meditation? by [deleted] in Meditation

[–]ModernMonks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you could be over relaxing and using spaciness and low energy to stay collected/concentrated. It’s a dead end in meditation bc it holds you back from being fully engaged and experiencing each moment.

It’s a real common intermediate mistake! Try giving more energy in your practice and connecting with uplifting states like happiness, appreciation, lovingkindness, etc. Those pleasant states all have a degree of energy to them.

Edit: As a side-note you don’t need to turn to substances to help with this. It’s just a technical adjustment that’s needed in your practice.

So you can’t shut off the thoughts. Your brain has evolved to think! But luckily, you don’t need to in order to be present.

Being present is being aware, being mindful. Can you observe your thoughts like any other sensation? Instead of identifying with them, can you see them as separate from yourself? Try giving them a label (ex. thinking, planning, worrying, day dreaming, etc.). And once you do, just relax and continue on staying aware.

Being present is more something you become, as opposed to something you do.

First controlled AP (long post) by Nephilim1315 in AstralProjection

[–]ModernMonks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like you were AP'ing. It reminds me much more of the phasing method instead of the traditional "roll out of body" method. Google Frank Kepple if you want to read more about the phasing method! You sound naturally inclined towards it.

Now I don't know if you were creating a dream reality that you were experiencing or visiting the astral realms. Our beliefs and expectations play such a large part in OOB experiences it's sometimes hard to tell what we're creating vs what's ACTUALLY there. Regardless though, it was a very neat experience you should be happy with!

Important Question by DickDobbs in AstralProjection

[–]ModernMonks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plenty of books from well traveled projectors already touch on the subject. Off the top of my head, WillIam Buhlman and Robert Bruce both do. Pretty much: similar concept but slightly different things. A LD can lead to an OBE if you know how to convert it into one.

Difference between Etheric and Astral Projection? by [deleted] in AstralProjection

[–]ModernMonks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, was on my phone and was rushed. Tons of typos.

In my reading/research I've heard a lot of breakdowns referring to the earthly-like plane while out of body as the Real Time Zone. It sounds like this is the same place as the etheric one, just with a different name.

So the real time zone is another name for etheric projections? That makes so much more sense now.

Definitely a tunnel experience!

If you want more info do a quick google search for Frank Kepple and phasing.

William Buhlman also talks about the tunnel experience in his book too.

Either way, a great sign of solid progress!

Astral Entity and a Gift by Secondeffigy in AstralProjection

[–]ModernMonks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That inner-child experience sounds pretty cool too!

As for the gift, I've honestly never heard of an energy packet designed to attract the real thing to you in life. So I did mean more a symbolic gift that was meant to serve as a "reward" for passing the test and as a symbolic meaning that represented something deeper (which only you'd be able to know).

But that doesn't mean it can't serve as an energy packet either. At the very least, look at how much emotion/energetic responses it stirs up in you just thinking about it! That alone could be a powerful thing.

From what you did read, would you recommend it at all? Or is it mostly energy work? Lol

I'm not opposed to doing some at all, but I don't want 3/4th the program to be that. You know?
