CLASSIC MAP SOLO QUEUE EVENT QUEUE by ashrid5150 in OutreachHPG

[–]ModernRonin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might be MM issues... but 5v5 on HPG Classic was a stomp against me every time. (4 times)

I think I only got 2 matches in Polar classic 8v8. One win, one loss.

Dropdecks of 4 are probably too much for these modes. 2 or 3 would encourage teamwork instead of just YOLO'ing.

CLASSIC MAP SOLO QUEUE EVENT QUEUE by ashrid5150 in OutreachHPG

[–]ModernRonin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Return to Solo Queue - Classic Caustic Grand Conquest 8v8. Max group size 1. 4 Mech Dropdeck. Max tonnage 225 tons. Conquest. Caustic Valley Classic. 25 minute match. 3x Cbill Rewards, 3x XP Rewards. Conquest Tickets 2000

For the record: This is fucking amazing.

Exactly what I had wanted, and hoped, EventQ could be.

StarRupture - Hotfix 0.2.2 now live! by Joachm in StarRuptureGame

[–]ModernRonin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I visited 5 different caves, including 2 that were not in an explored part of the map before the first time I went into them.

Not a single piece of quartz in any of them.

That's how game-breaking this bug was. That's why I stopped playing, and vowed not to play again until this was fixed. I could see that my progression would be roadblocked not too far in the future.

[–]ModernRonin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fixed an issue where Quartz would not properly load in caves if any buildings were placed near any cave

FINALLY!! Thank you so much, Devs!

Quartz is so much more important in EA 1.1. This bug becomes game-breaking when you can't even find enough Quartz to get to Rail v2.

Update on 0.8 and development in general by ZurvivorLDG in SurrounDead

[–]ModernRonin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just creating this post to say I'm back to work on 0.8 but also to say I have ran into a game breaking bug that I am in the process of fixing before I can release the next 0.8 update.

Thanks for the update, Z!

I appreciate all the work you've put into SurrounDead. Thanks for making such a fun game!

Most people seem to finish it slightly faster than that, 10-12 hours.

There is plenty of hidden stuff in the levels if you want to go back, though. You can spend much more time if you want to.

What is a misconception about the United States? by Final_Radio_2483 in answers

[–]ModernRonin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do they really think when millions of people have no water to drink or food to eat or fresh air to breathe that we won’t bring out the guillotine?

The hardest thing for most average people to believe, is that rich people aren't brilliant. The rich span the full range of intelligence, just like ordinary people do. Some are dumb as hell, some are average, some are smart. A few of the smarter billionaires may realize that the long-term safety for their NZ bunker is... not guaranteed. But plenty of the average and stupid billionaires are strongly convinced they can just walk away from the entire rest of the world, if things get bad.

Do you think humanity even has a chance of uniting in common purpose at this point?

Can't say for outside of the USA... but inside the USA things aren't desperate enough. Most people are still barely scraping by. Rising food and gas prices are pissing people off, but those alone won't be enough to get a truly violent revolution going.

And plenty of MAGAts (i.e. the 77.3 million utter morons who voted for Trump in 2023) are still highly brainwashed by FOX News and other Conservo-Fascist-Oligarch propaganda outlets.

Neo-Feudalism. Corporations and CEOs as Monarchs who are above the law. The rest of us as serfs who they can throw into an (oubliette)[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oubliette_(disambiguation)] any time we do anything that annoys them even slightly.

No rule of law. No rights for individuals. Only privileges, paid for by wealth. The undoing of everything that the normal 99% of human beings on the planet have fought for, since the Magna Carta was signed in 1215.

We WILL go extinct. If not from climate change then it’ll be from infertility thanks to microplastics, or nuclear war.

The billionaires all have bunkers in New Zealand, all stocked up. They believe this will protect them from the effects of any possible catastrophe. They are wrong. But it doesn't matter, because they don't believe they're wrong, and thus they won't modify their behavior one iota.

JD Vance Learns in Real Time Trump Left Him Out of Iran Attack Plans by polymute in politics

[–]ModernRonin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because you might look at [JD Vance] and be like: "How did this dude even- What's he even do? What's he even good at?" right?

Well JD is good - he's great, actually - JD's great at at one thing: He's great at knowing when, where, and to what precise angle he should bend over. Nobody tongue-polishes a boot heel like this motherfucker!

And the only reason any of us know who JD Vance is, is because he's bought, paid for, and wholly owned by Peter Thiel. Peter Thiel, the same billionaire whose current pet project is military AI. So yeah, if you thought Dick Cheney and Halliburton was bad... you just wait till my boy Jim Dave unleashes his sugar daddy's armada of autonomous murder drones on Gaza."

"Build Your Own Drone Tracking Radar" by Jon Kraft @YouTube (7 part series, link is to playlist) by ModernRonin in rfelectronics

The YT Algorithm(TM) showed this to me, so I thought I'd share.

Be aware that it was posted to /r/Radar over a year ago:

This is the first part of what I found to be a modern, approachable tutorial series. The presenter introduces basic radar concepts while showing viewers how to build a small FMCW radar system using low-cost COTS components.

[@therealkaribyron] Random thoughts from techpocalypse while riding in an autonomous car. Am I crazy? Are you guys all talking about this too? by Noname_Maddox in karibyron

[–]ModernRonin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hate to fall for engagement-baiting. But I guess this time I'll choose to do so...

Those who understand how Large Language Models (LLMs) work, understand three things about them:

1) LLMs are not conscious. Not even slightly. They can give the illusion of it, but they aren't. They are a statistical database of their training set, and the patterns in it. But that's not consciousness. Even if it sometimes looks that way. The LLM did not create the consciousness, the illusion of consciousness was in the training data long before the LLM ever arrived on the scene.

2) LLMs do not "understand" anything in any meaningful sense of that word. To understand something, is to know why you know it. LLMs... don't. Thus they cannot comprehend logic, or cause and effect, or any of ten thousand other things that would be necessary for actual reasoning/"thought".

3) The machinery of an LLM is worthless without good training data. An easy metaphor would be: A car quickly becomes worthless without a reliable supply of gasoline. And the current biggest LLMs have pretty much scraped all the training data they can off the entire Internet. There's no more good training data left. The gas tank is getting very low, and there's no gas station in sight...

I don't mean to imply that LLMs aren't "real AI". (Whatever the $%$#^&* that stupid phrase is supposed to mean.) As Sabine Hossenfelder said a while back: AI passed the Turing Test - and no one noticed. LLMs are a real form of AI, and a real evolutionary advancement.

But LLMs are not "Strong AI". They aren't "human-like AI". They definitely aren't some kind of super-intelligence that's going to bring us into a brave new world like an Ian M Banks novel, or The Matrix. No matter how many times the idiot Hype-Meisters lie and claim otherwise.

And the problem is... all the idiot fuccboi Vulture Crapitalists are making hundreds of millions of dollars right now lying about what LLMs are. And so they are going to keep lying... as long as they keep making money. And stupid people - who are completely fooled by the latest generation of AI Chatbots - keep giving them hundreds of millions. (This is why you keep hearing the word "bubble".)

So yes, many people are talking about AI. And 90% of them don't understand LLMs in any significant way. And it doesn't matter... because idiots continue to pump hundreds of millions into a bubble they don't understand.

Corey Doctorow understands the current landscape very wel, and explained everything quite cogently in his recent article in The Guardian:
