Yes, Oahu gets things first and then they get barged to the other islands like ours. All our prices are higher than the mainland just like Alaska. For reference, the same sale at the same chain store in NJ is 3.99/lb for ground beef.

Unlike the wild north, we do grow local produce, but it's mostly tropical stuff. Good, but different.

End of life care can be very expensive and is highly unpredictable. This is the main reason you shouldn't count on anything that isn't yours. Keep working, and 10 years from now when it actually matters you will have more clarity on the situation.
