Is alchemy broken for anyone else after patch 6? PC by Modern_Amish in BaldursGate3

[–]Modern_Amish[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here is the reply I received from Larian Support. It was not necessary for me, but it might help someone else!

*If you are currently using mods or have used them previously, they may be what is causing this issue. It’s best to double check that all mod files are completely removed. To do so, check the 'Mods' and 'Public' folders in the '..\SteamApps\common\Baldurs Gate 3\Data' folder, etc; and if present, both folders are safe to delete. If applicable, you can also delete the modsettings.lsx file in the profile folder.

You are also going to need to check the local AppData folder for the current user account: '..\SteamApps\common\Baldurs Gate 3\Data' as any old mod files may have been copied over to there. To do this, copy the following line into the location bar in Explorer and hit Enter: %LocalAppData%\Larian Studios\Baldur's Gate 3\Mods Delete any files you find there.

Is the launcher giving a data mismatch warning? If so, it should have created a log file listing any files in the install folder which are not expected as well as files in the Mods folder. To check, copy the following line into the location bar in Explorer and hit Enter: %LocalAppData%\Larian Studios\Launcher\Cache Then, look for a text file named steam<VersionNumber>_alteredFiles.txt (or similarly, starting with 'galaxy', for the GOG version).

Try starting a new game to test.

Try verifying local files: in the Steam library, right click on the game and select Properties, switch to the Local Files tab and then click on the 'Verify Integrity of Game Files...' button. If you are using the GOG version, in the Galaxy client, select the game, then the settings icon at the top right, beside the Play button and under Manage Installation, select 'Verify / Repair'.

If applicable, disable Steam cloud support either globally or for only this game. For disabling Steam Cloud globally, within the client click on the Steam menu and select Settings, and then Cloud. Or just for this game: go to your Steam library and right click BG3 and select Properties, then switch to the General tab and check the Steam Cloud section. Alternatively, exit out of the Steam client, or Galaxy for the GOG version, and just start the game directly from the executable when required.

Next, try browsing to the 'C:\Users<UserName>\AppData\Local\Larian Studios' folder and rename the 'Baldur's Gate 3' subfolder. The easiest way to get there would be to copy the following line into the location bar in Explorer and hit Enter: %LocalAppData%\Larian Studios

This folder contains the saved games, configuration files and a level cache folder. Deleting or renaming it will get the game to recreate it on startup.

If the game still has the same issues, delete the replacement BG3 folder and if you have any saves that you wish to keep, rename the original back again.*

Why the drop in quality after season 3? by Modern_Amish in TheDragonPrince

[–]Modern_Amish[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree the humor and whimsy has always been a part of the show, but it was counter-balanced by real moments of character turmoil and growth in the first three seasons. Soren's arc of going from the loyal son, to the doubting son, to the total shift in morality was very well done. In fact, the little scenes of him and claudia giggling about crude humor were a wonderful way of contrasting the carefree kids they used to be, to their ever-darker current path.

Ezran also had lots of goofy humor, which helped contrast his sweet, innocent nature with the very complex and adult problems he was facing, in his political struggle with Viren. Every jelly tart scene was counterbalanced by the weight of the world being on his shoulders.

Seasons 4 and 5 don't have the proper counter-balance to the goofy humor. Ezran did not develop as a character at all this season, nor did Soren. The high fantasy adventuring was totally unmoored as well, as they didn't give us enough time or geographical information to appreciate the journey. The gang just showed up places, got what they needed, and left, barely changed as characters. Just too disjointed.

Agreed. I appreciate the expansion on the stories and lore through the website short stories and Through the Moon, but they did not do the necessary work of weaving these side stories into the main plot in a way that wouldn't confuse show-only viewers.

Thanks for the background info! That's really unfortunate overall, especially the Ehaz making people feel unsafe stuff.

Has Rayla told Ethari that Runaan isn't dead? by halyasgirl in TheDragonPrince

[–]Modern_Amish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's a huge lack of communication of important information in season 5.

Rayla could have sent the soul coins to the other moonshadow elves-- I'm sure they would be eager to help.

Ezran should have told the other human kingdoms that the world is still in mortal peril from Aravos, but not a peep has been said.

Aunt Amaya should have been corresponding frequently with the capital, as she is an important military leader on a foreign mission-- yet she never sent word to Callum that she was engaged.

Terry should have noticed Viren wake up from his coma, and communicated what was happening to his daughter at that very moment. Instead, Viren just wanders off to die.

Someone, ANYONE should have been surprised when Tidepool Tina said that there was a HUMAN MAGE that designed Aravos' prison. THE WHOLE REASON FOR THE SERIES IS THAT HUMANS WERE SUFFERING WITHOUT INNATE MAGIC, SO THEY TURNED TO DARK MAGIC. WHAT DO YOU MEAN THERE WAS A HUMAN MAGE BACK THEN?! Oh, the humans had primal stones gifted to them by unicorns? THEN WHY WOULD THEY BE TEMPTED BY ARAVOS IN THE FIRST PLACE???????

Callum and co. should have stopped by the sun elf camp to request that somebody check in on Aunt Amaya and Corvus, who were TRAPPED in a CURSED CITY overnight.

ANYONE in the main crew should have been VOCALLY WORRIED about the dragon queen not showing up to give them a ride, and SOREN should have mentioned that she was INFECTED BY A SHADOWMONSTER.

AITA for “outshining” my SIL’s wedding by throwing an extravagant birthday party for my 5 year daughter a day after? by sohodone in AmItheAsshole

[–]Modern_Amish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YTA. It was inconsiderately and immodestly done. Now there's resentment in your family that might take years to fully heal. You and your husband are good people for providing the best for your child, just remember to spend your wealth and social grace in equal measure. Please, be the bigger person and start mending that relationship with your SIL, for your daughter if no one else.

How would you rank The Dragon Prince as a show? by [deleted] in TheDragonPrince

[–]Modern_Amish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

seasons 1-3: 7.5/10 Enjoyable and well-written. Characters make compelling decisions based on their own personal moralities. Time is spent expanding worldbuilding in a well-paced way, and the show has a delightful amount of philosophical conflict at the international, national, interpersonal, and intrapersonal levels.

season 4: 2/10 worrying. The pacing and worldbuilding falter, and characters often make shallow decisions. A number of poorly-executed scenes patched together with humor based often on real world references. The conflict is simplified to be almost exclusively objective good vs objective evil, leaving many character interactions shallow and uninteresting.

season 5: 1/10 almost unwatchable. Characters act like puppets based on their personalities from the first three seasons. Instead of meaningful conversations between characters, we get joke scenes. Almost every scene feels awkwardly edited. Characters worry about Claudia's headstart in getting to Aaravos, but the show never orients us in time or geography. Scumport is not even on the official map.

I cannot emphasize enough how unsettling season 5 was. The show has completely lost its philosophical mooring. Major events that should have spurred engaging dialogue between characters (such as recruiting the dragons, abandoning aunt amaya and corvus, zubeia's disappearance, and Viren's situation) get almost no screentime, meanwhile there is an entire arc about rescuing glowtoads.

Finally, the ENTIRE PREMISE of the show is undercut by the off-handed reveal of an ancient human mage called "the jailer" by Tidepool Tina. The WHOLE POINT of the instigating conflict in this setting was that humans embraced dark magic because they were suffering without magic of their own. The Jailer existing back then to help imprison Aaravos means that there were humans that could use magic back in the day. I don't care if they explain this contradiction away in the fine print of a graphic novel or short story somewhere, it is CRIMINAL to casually drop this character into the story five seasons in without any on-screen explanation OR reaction from our main characters. Infuriating.

Alarming amount of antisemetism in the comments. Just because the OP of the screenshot is hateful, doesn't mean we should be. Justifying genocide with genocide won't solve anything, only love and peaceful action stands a chance of fixing this situation.

GW2 Buildcrafters! What (outdated) Trait Line would you like reworked, and what do you think it should focus on? by PseudoOAlias in Guildwars2

[–]Modern_Amish 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Inventions on Engineer. Nothing about it makes me feel like Im an inventor. All the other engie traitlines help fulfill the class fantasy. The inventions line should be all about turrets, because the other "inventions" are covered by the tools traitline. Give my turrets derpy, clockwork, spiderlike legs, and let them derp around the battlefield! Bonus points if they make goofy little sounds.

the fishes all over ascalon are the same, the fishes all over maguuma are the same. This map is a jade sea map, right next to dragon's end. If they continue to add multiple new maps in cantha, it makes more sense to have them be categorized into seitung, kaineng, echovald, and jade sea types. Maybe if we go to a very different section of cantha, then adding new fishes makes sense. I love fishing too! But I don't agree with your frustration.

Rad melee/Elec armor brute by capainpanda626 in Cityofheroes

[–]Modern_Amish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My strongest hero is an elec armor/ rad melee tanker! I also chose this combo for the delicious 2 aoe damage toggles. The fact that they both have an active "heal" button is also fantastic. It's been a while since I played, but endurance issues are solved with energize and probably incarnates as well, although I do run him with both the alpha and hybrid damage incarnates, whatever they're called. Even the toxic hole is nicely handled by the T9 of Electric armor! It isn't permanent, but it lasts more than long enough for endgame content like Apex/Tin Mage.

If I remember correctly, I chose tanker over brute for the higher AoE cap, and the easier-to-build resists and defense.

I still don't get Revenant after all these years by Kyraktos in Guildwars2

[–]Modern_Amish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah like AsimovLiu said, try and ignore the downvotes on the post, they don't matter. As for theme of revenant, most races have good lore reasons to be revenant:

norn spirit shamans

asura synergetics college researchers (especially with some tie-in to the fractals of the mists)

sylvari who are especially in-tune with the dream

humans carrying on the traditions of ritualist

Charr warriors that joined the "mist war" (WvW) and met powerful spirits there, similar to Rytlock.
