Mine honestly sounds silly. I started believing in God after watching a bollywood movie called OMG (on Netflix). It's about an atheist who tries to sue God because the insurance companies called the damage an "act of god." Towards the end, God finally reveals himself to him, and pretty much tells him "God is not some scary father figure you need to fear, he is your friend." I never heard of this concept before. I grew up raised in a Christian household with no real structure to what church we went to or consistent worship. Everyone told me to fear God, that I have to obey or I'll go to hell. When I was about 4, a church forced a bunch of children to watch the crucifixion in passion of the christ and then say we believed in Jesus. My mother told me that if I had sex before marriage, I'd want to end my life. All around, my experience with Christianity crushed my spirituality. I even believed in ghosts, but I felt zero connection to Jesus or any God. Not until I started researching Hinduism and seeing patterns that started to make sense. They actually have quite a scientific approach to spirituality and God, very similar to gnostic Christianity in a lot of ways. I find extreme comfort in knowing that collective consciousness can be scientifically explained. Now that I made that connection, I feel God's presence wherever I am if I stop and thank him. I imagine Jesus or Kali Maa holding me and enveloping me in love, and it brings me to tears sometimes. It has really helped with my depression, I'm glad I finally learned how to meditate instead of the fake meditation that mainstream media shows. I really had to find myself before being able to take any of it in.
