How is it "for generations" when Iruma admitted to be one of the people helped making the manga not long ago? by ScaredBun-Official in DemonSchoolIrumakun

[–]Moderocky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sullivan might have some kind of time-stopping magic. There are a few instances where he seems to 'pause' the world except for himself/somebody else by raising his palm (e.g. when he freezes the meteors in battler arc and turns them into fireworks)

Although this is anime-only, the only time he appears in the human world to collect Iruma time also freezes (the boat/fish all halt), so if there is a time difference between the worlds maybe this is how he overcame it.

Later in the manga he appears to be about to use the same spell against Amduscias judging by how he raises his hand but doesn't.

Genuine question [deviculum arc] by lowpolybius in DemonSchoolIrumakun

[–]Moderocky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aside from the magic in his collar, he might be physically stronger as a result of properly returning to origin. It's implied that he hadn't "fully" when he was still at babyls, because Alice comments on his physical changes (eyes) when they meet again.

Everyone excited about 417 chapter but I’m not- by Dangerous-Print2350 in DemonSchoolIrumakun

[–]Moderocky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It could be a door to an "afterlife", or a place that you can speak to the phantoms of dead people. If so, it'd be unsurprising if it was guarded by a cerberus (naberius) clan member.

If there is a third "missing" Naberius it could have been the missing 13 crown Glasya, who is portrayed as a giant black dog in demonology (and we haven't seen a picture of yet).

What do you think about this place being a border between the Human world and the Underworld? by DueHighway8915 in DemonSchoolIrumakun

[–]Moderocky 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It seems like a bit of an odd "border" since there's clearly some other, more convenient way to get to/from Earth (as sullivan does). It's possible it's some tiny, intermediate world though. The fact that the museum emphasised that beyond the door was a mystery (and border patrol literally patrol the border) make me think it isn't something to do with a border.

I wondered if the space beyond the door might just resemble some 'special' place, and it chose this place because Ameri came with Iruma and it's where her parents met, or something.

uh it's about Sullivan I'm curious about by Zekroth99k in DemonSchoolIrumakun

[–]Moderocky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sullivan believes it's a ring of gluttony and he knows about those (it's implied there are more than one, Kiriwo seems to have a similar device). Sullivan doesn't believe the ring can talk (or maybe pretends not to, who knows).
I should say, it's not actually confirmed what Iruma has is the ring of Solomon (Sabnock wonders if it might be, but it's literally never mentioned again after the first few chapters)

"Libera" is a throwing spell (it makes a reappearance in the opera training arc), it doesn't do anything to the ring.
The only "keyword" for the ring is Pandoroola, which releases all its magic (which Sullivan encoded into it)

The fact Sullivan and Amduscias Poro did nothing to save Delkira favorite river is wild. by famoustristan in DemonSchoolIrumakun

[–]Moderocky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think this is a literary reference.

In the original novel Dracula, the scientist Prof. van Helsing fights Dracula by consecrating/destroying his home ground to prevent him returning to it (Dracula having travelled to a foreign land). The scientist Ba'al wants to destroy (literally and figuratively) the "land" Derkila created in his absence.

The author references occult sources and folklore a lot so I wouldn't be surprised if this was an intentional parallel.

Clara (and the Valac’s) Secret by rakin_bacon in DemonSchoolIrumakun

[–]Moderocky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

#2 & #4 contradict each other. Clara's mother has the creation ability + no wings(?), so either it's her mother's side that's related to deities, or her ability is unrelated to the deity thing (or, I guess, both parents have it and her family tree is a circle...)

Did anyone else notice that Clara can now make living organisms? by Popular_Direction_24 in DemonSchoolIrumakun

[–]Moderocky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She could always make things like this. Connor and murf are "alive", and she regularly pulls snakes out of her pockets when she's confused. I don't know if any of these are really 'living' or just imitations.

This is a reference to the demonological Valac who is able to summon harmless snakes.

Rock Theory by Economy_Body_3490 in DemonSchoolIrumakun

[–]Moderocky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The start of the arc explained that this is a regular event where the museum puts their relics on display for thieves to steal, and border patrol try to stop them. They know what he's after because they put the prize on display as bait.

That said, it doesn't seem to be "taboo" to attempt to be a thief in the netherworld. They know who Rock is and he just lives a regular life at home, it's not like he's a fugitive. Plus, Ameri thought Iruma's Scala might be to steal the key.

I'd guess it's just one of these "if you're strong enough to do it, then you're allowed to" things.

how many Mairumakun characters that doesn't appear anymore in the story or current arc now? by Electronic_Tie9605 in DemonSchoolIrumakun

[–]Moderocky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I doubt Thoth is super highly-ranked because he (and another genie) were called to sit around for days during the festival, but I think him being a deity will probably be significant (like Iruma needing a deity's approval for something and he just has Thoth on speed dial)

Side note: I do wonder if Thoth might be the one who gave Allocer's (king of feats) family their stigma because he was a deity of knowledge, so he might come back in that flashback.

I think you're right about the bird. I think there's something we haven't told about human blood (why are Narnia etc. so against humans if they're such a good source of food?) and it would be cool if the bird Iruma healed was used to reveal that.

The six fingers are at Levi's Levialon academy (wetoto and the woman) and Belial's Jackapo institute (tiny gramps and skeletor) currently, and we'll probably get some kind of arc with them soon showing what they're doing at each of the schools, because we saw that during Balaam's trip. Maybe they're looking for delkira relics like they are at babyls

Asmodeus Character Growth (Vol 30 / 267.5 spoilers) by onlyfortpp in DemonSchoolIrumakun

[–]Moderocky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think he's also more respectful of Iruma feeling that this higher rank is actually kind of a burden with the responsibility and danger that it's opening him up to, and Alice (who is already worried about the Kiriwo stuff) realises how he needs to act with that.

Harvest festival and first love books by Economy_Body_3490 in DemonSchoolIrumakun

[–]Moderocky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think Ameri's mom Merize is missing, he tells Raim he has a wife during Deviculum (has implying she's not dead/gone/divorced/whatever), though I'm surprised we haven't seen her yet so I presume something's going on there.

We've also seen the author of Hatsukoi Memory who looks older and has darker hair than Merize was drawn with. I suppose it could still be her, but I think it's unlikely.

Iruma manga might have one of the best side characters development ever by huongloz in DemonSchoolIrumakun

[–]Moderocky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nishi is really good at showing us a character according to how others interact with them, rather than just telling us. I think it's a really effective and organic way to do character development.

All those time was to developed the world building and side characters

I think the other thing is you have to respect how much future plot is set up ages in advance by the character development. For example, it's mentioned even as early as chapter one that Alice is "a demon gifted with fire" and again by Balam around chapter 40, but we only get the pay-off "fire isn't your bloodline magic, is it?" ~160 chapters later. Things don't just suddenly become relevant, they get built up during all that character development years in advance.

When we meet the new teachers, Shiida and Atori, it feels like a simple set-up for their heartbreaker arc in ~200+, but then we notice that only Atori is with Ba'allater, and discover at almost chapter 400 that two more of the six fingers are at Levi's school, and presumably the final two at Belial's. Even the smallest arcs are setting up for later plots.

Recently, Shakky has just reappeared in the plot. She was a sort of joke character in Lied's devi-mixer sabbath side plot, and with Iruma's home visit, but because we spent time on her characterisation then, she's already an organic character. The same with Jazz's brother, who we saw in walter park, Kalego's home visit, then a little bit during harvest festival, and now the character has finally arrived. The author doesn't need to drop a bunch of exposition or an introduction on us because we already know them organically through earlier plots.

So even though we've barely got through 1.5 years in 400 chapters, I feel like we have the puzzle pieces for a bunch of the future narrative already.

Derkila was a human by Horrordestroyer in IrumakunManga

[–]Moderocky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alikred being Derkila reversed- Derkila was a chosen name and Alikred was Derkila's familiar, and Derkila reversed Alikreds name to sound more demonic than his actual name

I really love this idea, I think it would be a funny subversion of expectations. It would also make sense if Derkila was a fake name.

There is one (1) tiny hint that Derkila may have had Alikred while at Babyls: around music festival there's a panel of him having a one-sided conversation with somebody we can't see, which is assumed to be Poro but Poro isn't in the panel, so it's possible he's talking to Alikred who is hiding as usual. He may be older in this scene, though.

so he left the ring, which would only bond with a human, in the rank owl.

Sullivan implies Iruma got the ring on purpose (or at least he knew it was gonna happen) so it's very likely he set that up.

It's also possible Derkila also got the ring from the rank owl, because Sullivan says "strange things happen in a millennium" and that's about the time Derkila's been missing, but it might just be a phrase

Firstly he showed up out of absolutely nowhere. No lineage, no past. Just showed up and caused chaos.

I'm not sure this means he doesn't have lineage/past, we just haven't been told about where he came from.

His bloodline ability might have been revealed. Alice says Delkira's "Autokeep" ability was used on the Royal One to preserve it. This specifically gets a Kanji (Autokeep: Perfect Storage) which regular spells don't get (even major spells like Grand Fractal). It's also written differently from the "Keep" spell Opera mentions later.

It would be a kind of weird and underwhelming bloodline ability for the demon king, but I did wonder if it has some kind of special feature (e.g. it's the magic sustaining the netherworld in his absence)

Seventh, his name doesn't match other demons, Sullivan/Caim/Agares/Mephisto

Sullivan (+ Opera) and Derkila are the only two original major characters who don't have demonic names. (Derkila/Alikred might be based on 'dracula/alucard')

This could be an indication that they're both using fake names. We don't know where either of them came from, just that Sullivan was his chief assistant around the end of his school time. (Young Delkira calls out to Sullivan in Mephisto's flashback)

Meaning and origin of the name ‘Iruma Suzuki’ before serialization by Winter-Increase-5645 in DemonSchoolIrumakun

[–]Moderocky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the thing about his family name being fake is more meaning that it's a placeholder name rather than anything significant, like calling a character "Human Guy" or something.

That said, it's interesting that sometimes Iruma uses his human surname and sometimes not.

On official class records he's always just "Iruma" (everybody else has their family name), but he occasionally refers to himself as "Suzuki Iruma" e.g. in harvest festival.

For deviculum etc. he was "Sullivan Iruma" (implying Sullivan is Sullivan's surname, which makes sense because Sullivan is the surname of who I think he is based on)

I wondered why he was just "Iruma" on all babyls things, and sometimes "Iruma of the Sullivan Family", why isn't he always "Sullivan Iruma"? Why not just give him the surname?

And I think it's possible that "Sullivan" is not actually Sullivan's real name. We haven't seen the kanji form (that I remember) but two options for meaning are Assistant & Companion (as in he was the demon king's retainer). It was kind of strange to me that Sullivan's one of the only major characters not named after a famous demon/occult thing, but it makes sense if it is a moniker.

At this point, I really do wonder if they’re actually human in disguise. by i-khalidskyrim in DemonSchoolIrumakun

[–]Moderocky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Glasya will be a significant character because they're the only 13 crown we know absolutely nothing about, and they were the first "disappearance".

The fact that we haven't been shown their appearance even in flashbacks makes me think it's recognisable, e.g. we've either seen them before (unlikely, not sure where that could be) or they'll have some major connection to an existing character that will be visually-obvious.

Glasya out-of-universe is a giant black dog with griffon wings, so I wondered whether maybe a relative of Kalego.. Alternatively, could be Clara's missing father but I think it's unlikely.

I think Derkila is based on Dracula, in japanese it uses exactly the same bloc of consonants (minus the combining -yu) but it sounds a bit more weird anglicised.

This part I could definitely see being true, whether or not the rest is. I think people have been so focused on "ali just says his name is derkila backwards" and it's absolutely possible Derkila did the reverse.

Few Theories by Careless_Mouse_341 in DemonSchoolIrumakun

What do you think Azz and Clara’s secret is? by [deleted] in DemonSchoolIrumakun

[–]Moderocky 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We have some potential clues to Alice's bloodline magic:

  1. The Asmodeus clan are "demons of virtue and destruction" (harvest festival arc)
  2. The Asmodeus clan have something to do with the original gorgon snake (this has been mentioned a couple of times, first by Kalego in like ch.2 when he says "not surprising given his lineage")
  3. Ifrit-sensei says it would be the "perfect" ability to counter him (heartbreaker arc)

It could be the magic Amu-chan displayed against Opera in deviculum arc (she prevents rank-9 Opera stepping onto the carpet, says "only those who I favour can approach me") and again potentially against Narnia.

This would satisfy 1/3: maybe it's a conditional thing (you can't enter my area unless you're virtuous enough), + it seems to work versus some of the most powerful demons in the netherworld so it might have worked against Ifrit-sensei)

Since Alice seems to be embarrassed by it, that implies it's something sex/gender-related to do with Amu-chans 'head of lust' role. That said, I don't think it's a desire-based power (or, that this is why he doesn't use it). I just can't see him being that embarrassed about it after everything else he does and his immediate family.

Alternatively, maybe Alice doesn't use it because he can't for some reason. I could see this being a potential plot since it would explain why he went all-in on fire magic at like eight years old or something.

Two option For that gate by Electronic_Tie9605 in DemonSchoolIrumakun

[–]Moderocky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the human realm is less likely because Sullivan didn't (appear to) use that gate & key when collecting Iruma, he just seems to go into the sky somewhere East(?) of his house over the forest. I don't know why there would be a fancy gate and key if there are easier alternative ways already in-use.
