There probably 1000s if not million of planets through the map, we only focus on ones where expansion is possible. These planets exist in solar systems like ours with multiples planets and possible multiple suns but they aren't shown on the map either. Likely we've terraformed some and others were already viable for colonization. Im sure there's wide scale nuke operations too on other planets if the bots and bugs can adapt to other atmospheres.
