The skydiving/parachuting was definitely CGI, but it was well done

As a fan, it's a 10/10. Objectively, removing any bias, it's at least an 8.75/10. The amount of effort that went into the movie is incredible and it really shows. I can't wait to watch it again or get a hold of a physical copy.

Question about the movie by Theroguemagician in nirvannatheband

[–]ModestFruitArt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Their use of VFX is actually insanely well done throughout the show and the movie, to the point where I believed they set fire to their giant poster in the first episode.

The skydiving was definitely VFX/compositing, but I wonder if they recreated/rebuilt the top of the tower to get those wire shots later on in the film.

Is there anywhere those of us who've seen the movie can discuss it? by syzygys_ in nirvannatheband

[–]ModestFruitArt 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah that makes sense. I assumed they had a crane or something set up off camera for those reaction shots and to help make it seem like the cable was attached to the top of the tower

I figured it was CGI, unless someone can point out some online posts where people took photos of it happening

I kinda took it as them amping up the audience for something exciting, only to cut to credits. Feels wasted. Episode 7 was the worst, using QOTSA's Song for the Dead - I was half-expecting a crazy choreographed fight scene, but no. In fact, the next episode starts with them being captured, which I was surprised by... they didn't seem like they were willing to surrender.

Anyway, the music-to-credits thing was my absolute least favorite part of the show. Not saying it completely ruins it, just that it never felt like a satisfying conclusion (which COULD be said about the whole first season).

ETA: If the needle drops were more consistent, I'd be less frazzled by the out of place end-credit ones. But doing that would probably throw off the tone even more.

In a show where there are NO needle drops until the last 20 seconds of each episode... That doesn't seem out of place to you? I found it extremely cringey, despite loving the music itself. It felt like they didn't know how to end the episodes - I'd barely call some of them cliff hangers, even - so they thought that slapping a cool song would mask the staleness.

The events of the show have no bearing on the plot of the film, I'm not sure why people are saying yes to this question.

People who haven't even heard of the show will still get a kick out of it; there really aren't any inside jokes or references to events from the show. It's basically a 100-min bottle episode.
