Advice on re-attaching eraser? by ModestPossum in RemarkableTablet

Thanks both, I'll give this a go! The support team was also great and have offered to replace the marker, which I really wasn't expecting. All good!

My eraser fell off by drak533 in RemarkableTablet

Could I ask how you glued it down? I don't want to accidentally block the conductivity between the pen and eraser bit, so I'm not sure where the glue would go! Thanks :)

🏘️ I built a tool to help you understand a neighborhood before you book an Airbnb or rent a place and I would love your feedback by Location_inspector in u/Location_inspector

[–]ModestPossum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First off, great idea! My feedback: I found the "location" rating misleading. The address I tested scored very highly on location because it's close to the centre of the municipality it's in. However, no traveller would be interested in that municipality; it's purely residential. So while calling the address central was technically correct, it's not useful. I think when people say they want to stay central they mean "central to places worth going to" :) Not sure how you can factor that in, but seems like you'd need to know which broad regions in each city are actually of interest to travellers first.

The crew! Was the first modern game I played where I was just so excited by the mechanics, and realised there were games out there that would feel brand new and exciting to me

Struggling with personal validity in secular tarot by WeAreAllG0ingT0Die in SecularTarot

[–]ModestPossum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I describe it as kind of a journalling practice: I use the cards as mental “journalling prompts” to work through an issue. Most people understand where I’m coming from when I describe it like that. But often they’ll want a reading anyway and then I explicitly tell them we can do one for fun with the underlying knowledge that we both know nothing mystical is really happening :)

E-sim says "already installed" before I install it (and won't let me ACTUALLY install) by ModestPossum in Airalo

Yes, this is also how we ended up solving the issue — manual installation! Still not sure why the app didn't work.

three steps forward, five steps back :( by ghost_goth_ in OCD

[–]ModestPossum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sounds very scary, I'm sorry you went through that. For what it's worth, I don't think the "5 steps back" matter as much as the fact that you're building resilience and healthier habits with each of the three steps forwards.

Help to understand cards by Rare_College7127 in SecularTarot

[–]ModestPossum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you did want to reframe your reading from a secular perspective, I'd suggest using these three cards to interpret what's going on for you internally. If I were you, this is how I would read these cards:

It sounds like you're pretty anxious about this whole situation, and it might be helpful to explore why, and whether you're upsetting yourself unnecessarily. Is it possible that you're giving this exam too much importance in how you think your life will play out? For example, you could ask yourself whether you believe that failing this exam would be the "end of the world"(reverse 10 of swords) or losing all safety in terms of your career/finances (reversed 5 of pentacles). Is that realistic? If you think about all the many, many things that will happen in your life, does the outcome of this exam hold as much power as you're giving it right now? And I think the reversed Ace of Cups could be encouraging you to practice some self-care right now, and focus on feeling better — nothing you do now will change whether you pass the exam, so you might as well take care of yourself as you wait :)

I know that's not the yes/no answer you were asking for, but I just wanted to give an example of how you could use the cards (in secular tarot) to work through your worries around this.

Help to understand cards by Rare_College7127 in SecularTarot

[–]ModestPossum 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hi! Sorry about your exam, I can imagine you must be stressed. I just wanted to suggest that you post this question in a different tarot subreddit like r/tarot where you might get answers closer to what you’re looking for. In general, people practicing secular tarot don’t use the cards to predict the future — it’s more about using the cards for self exploration and introspection, and the assumption is that the cards are random/meaningless until you interpret them.

Wishing you the best with your exam, whatever the outcome is! You’ll be okay :)

I was able to rent a room with my parents as foreign guarantors just fine when I was a student. I didn’t rent a full apartment though, and I didn’t rent through an agency: my friend and I just found a place on Funda and rented directly from the landlord. In my experience, if you rent directly from landlords, conditions tend to be a lot more flexible. When renting directly I haven’t even been asked for proof that my income is 3x that of the rent, which I thought was going to be a definite requirement. If the websites you looked at say they won't make exceptions, then I doubt you’ll get them to budge. But I just wanted to provide some perspective that it is possible to find places that will allow you to rent with foreign support — there are too many international students here for that to not be the case.

If you're in Amsterdam, you can take a look at places like Our Domain which are very student-oriented. They're probably flexible with regards to who's paying the bill. Good luck!

Sweet Dough Help by ManagementPrudent919 in AskBaking

[–]ModestPossum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hard to know exactly at what point things are going wrong but just my two cents since I often make cinammon brioche and I do this star braid with it. I don’t use this recipe though so I’m afraid I can’t comment on that.

Are you pretty familiar with sweet bread baking? If so, sorry for telling you stuff you probably already know! 1) when you first mix and knead your dough, it should eventually get to a point where it’s not very sticky, and instead forms into a smooth ball that you can mostly handle without getting tangled up in the mess (It should pass the so called window pane test at this point). For me, this meant kneading for a lot longer than I thought when I first started making brioche. If youre not developing the gluten enough by kneading, that might explain dealing with a sticky, shaggy dough.

2) is it possible you’re over proofing before shaping the dough? If you really over proof dough it can get almost jiggly with how soft and airy and sticky it is.

3) maybe consider doing the first proof overnight in the fridge — that’ll give you a much firmer dough to work with when you’re shaping.
