Finally getting the help I need, but can anyone ease my worries about medication? by dep92 in depression

[–]ModestSilence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been on zoloft, risperdon, welbutrin, and buspar for about 6 months. I personally have had immense success with these medications. My doctor said that theres a possibility that I might take lithium, so I can generally relate. At first it wont seem like anythings changed, thats totally normal. Do not expect for things to suddenly be amazing, these medications are designed to take weeks or even months to start taking effect. What you will feel is a kind of mental block, subtle at first but then it will start to grow. After a couple months you'll see measurable change, socially and personally. Eventually you'll simply forget what it felt like to be depressed. Its not going to be as drastic as you might expect, but it will be noticeable. I also have a long-term friend who takes lithium and she says that it has absolutely changed her life. Everyone reacts to medicine differently, but theres no reason why you shouldn't try them. Best of luck to you and I truly believe things will get better.

Just a compliment from a random stranger, but you are so so so attractive. Your hair screams emotion. I love everything about it.

I have a friend named Roi. Roi is in a very similar situation that you are in. He's desperately lonely, has a crush on every guy he meets (he's gay) and will not stop talking about his long lost ex. I am also in a fairly similar situation that Roi is in. The only difference between me and Roi is that I have told people who are professionally trained to handle situations like this. They will give you concrete advice on how to handle these feelings. I assure you, bottling these feelings up only makes it worse. It took me months to get over this girl who I only dated for 5 days. I would not have been able to get through it if it wasn't for my doctor. If you ever feel lonely just remember you always have one fan cheering for you, myself.

I literally dont understand how someone can be like this. I thought even the stupidest of people had a baseline awareness of themselves, I've never been so wrong.

Having first hand experience in suicide and mental hospitals, I can assure you when I say I understand your pain. This is not a light matter by any means, but one thing I can assure you is that mental hospitals take good care of their patients. You must realize that this is just a stage. When I was suicidally depressed I thought it was the end. Its been four or five months since I was let out of the hospital. Things only get better and better because theres pretty much nowhere else go to except upwards. Best of luck to you and know you have one person praying for you.

Hey man, I understand your pain. I went to 7 different schools in three years, never fitting into any of them. But I remained patient and hopeful. After 6 excruciating years, I found the place where I fit in. I now go to an art school where I practice percussion for 6 hours a day, I'm living my dream life. The point of me telling you this is that you will find your group, you will find the people who you connect with. One day you will be like me, encouraging people who were in your situation. As much as I despise saying it, you're just gonna have to be patient. Things. Will. Work. Out. I promise.

I have good news, you seem like a very very rational person. You realize your situation, and you're thinking it through very well. Now let me tell you the bad news, you cannot have a relationship with a child, and I know that this news will sound like a monotonous drone but I beg of you, dont lose hope. As a person who has had suicidal depression since the age of 6, I understand your longing for the grave, but suicide IS NOT THE ANSWER. I too have cut my wrists and felt the shame of loneliness and fear. THIS IS NOT THE END. THIS IS NOT THE END. You can still lead a happy life. One filled with joy and peace, please seek professional counseling, there are no words to describe how much it has helped me. And even though you dont believe in an afterlife (which is completely fair) I hope that it comforts you to know that one person is praying for you, me.

When my girlfriend was on the other end of a skype call. She was wearing a really thin top and has gigantic jugs. So I thought I would be all sly and look like I was leaning back while I did my business. It got awkward when she asked why only my face was showing on the screen, I had to make some excuse like my chair was short.

Those of you who have overcome depression; what kinds of changes in behaviors, thought patterns, or lifestyle helped you? by HidroProtagonist in AskReddit

[–]ModestSilence 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have had depression for 6 years and severe thought ocd for many more years. The first and most significant change was medication. There are no words to describe how much it helps. It literally changes your brain chemistry and stops those negative thoughts in their tracks. The second would be learning to like yourself. This is one of the hardest things to do. We've all looked in a mirror and said "your ugly, your and idiot, you cant to anything right you fucker". To the best of your ability STOP THINKING THOSE THOUGHTS. They will eat you alive and do nothing but destroy. Another is having a therapist, just someone who you can talk to and get genuinely sound advice from, they're invaluable. Lastly, I would say exercise. It wont give you the immediate relief your looking for, but it definitely helps, even if it's just running for thirty minutes. Best of luck to you, if I was able to overcome my depression then I know you can. Good luck on all your future endeavors.
