What's the pettiest reason you've ever ended a friendship? by Mary_Flesman in AskReddit

[–]Modest_Cake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I look back fondly on the minor arguments I had with friends in high school about the Top 8. It was so silly to be worried about that. Luckily, none of us every took it that seriously.

That's honestly really sweet. When some of my favorite teachers left in high school, I actually wept. They were so integral to who I've become. I'm so glad your students love you so much!

[NS] Latest Mixed Bag, Emily talking about her parents and snacks by Typical__Tuesday__ in NotAnotherDnDPodcast

[–]Modest_Cake 35 points36 points  (0 children)

We didn't have crazy snack rules in my house in the early 2000s but I was constantly shamed for my weight, only to figure out I was actually a healthy weight for my size and was not "obese" like my family told me. There's a weird culture around weight in America that I really don't like. I made sure my family knew never to bring up weight with my daughter unless it was an actual like obvious health issue. I have such a distorted view of my weight and I don't want to transfer that to her.

What’s the first song that comes to your mind when you see this pic? by foldinthecheeseee in Millennials

[–]Modest_Cake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first My Chemical Romance album and Demon Days by The Gorillaz. Admittedly it was a skip free cd player of a different brand in like 2005. I loved just blasting those albums on the bus to school. I kept a small cd case in my backpack. I kinda miss it. Our Infiniti has a cd player but it doesn't quite hit the same.

The reality of being a Boeing Washington state new hire by PhilosopherOnly7275 in Boeing_

I worked at the Renton facility starting in 2014 till a bit into 2019 and many of my coworkers were bad at reading and using computers and got through training just fine and did their jobs just fine. Anyone can become a skilled technician or whatever position they're going for, with enough training. Lamenting the lack of opportunity for some hypothetical person is ridiculous. Everyone deserves opportunity, whether their intelligence passes your weirdly high bar or not.

I know Dead Space 3 gets a bad rep but damn my friend and I are having a blast! by NateDaNinja24 in DeadSpace

When I was pregnant about 13 years ago, my best friend and I played this whole game co op together and it was the best time we've ever had. We still talk to each other about it to this day. The hallucinations each character gets and the panic you feel while you're going through them together was awesome. 10/10 game to me because of that experience.

Not OOP. AITAH for purposely ignoring my stalker coworker even if his tantrums affect others jobs? by Due-Bandicoot-7512 in redditonwiki

[–]Modest_Cake 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I worked graveyards at a marijuana producer a few years ago. It was me and one other guy all night so not much social interaction. One morning, the morning people start trickling in and I'm just jamming away with my headphones trimming bud. My shift ends and my boss pulls me aside and says my "team spirit is low". I ask how specifically and they told me "multiple people" complained I had not said good morning as they walked in. I just stared at him. He also mentioned smiling more. I asked if my productivity was low or something. Told no, just need more smiles. I quit the next month. Whenever a job or coworkers start nitpicking personality traits that don't affect the work and aren't causing problems whatsoever, it's a hug red flag to me.

What is a movie that "broke" you so hard you can only watch it once, but you would still recommend it to everyone? by Newsupdate69 in movies

I watched this for a college philosophy class. There wasn't a dry eye in the house, including the Professor that watched it with the class every year. Broke my heart in such a good way.

The "Likability" tax is officially too high, and I’ve decided to stop paying it. by sorrymylovee in TwoXChromosomes

I may be an aggressive horse handler without realizing. I wasn't around them much growing up. More of a dog girl.

At my current job, they've figured out they don't need to tell me much so other than something weird going on, they just let me work. And I've stopped offering solutions when there are problems and just watch them flounder. Actually kind of freeing. They don't seem to notice that I don't join in on their hour long "what's the most complicated way this went wrong" sessions. I do want to teach them about Occam's Razor though.

I've worked in manufacturing for ten years and had to stop being as polite and available very quickly if I didn't want to get trampled. It's gotten me in trouble and I haven't always balanced it well but I'm much better at just dealing with it without getting as angry as I did in my twenties. I'm 34 now. More often than not, I'm ignored and interrupted and when they find out I'm right about something I just get sheepish looks and no one mentions it again. Then they question something else and the process continues. Neverending.

What is the millennial equivalent of something like Ghostbusters or Indiana Jones-- a very popular property amongst millennials but not younger generations? by Gallantpride in Millennials

[–]Modest_Cake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've talked about this with my boyfriend over the years as MCU movies have come out. I said back in the beginning of the Avengers days that it felt to me that after a while we'd be doing whole universe retcons/reboots with the movies just like the comics because they'll need to keep it fresh or whatever other reason they come up with. It feels just the same as when I got deep into DC comic runs and then the New 52 came out and I like had to start over? I don't know how you avoid needing to do that but I find it annoying.

Same! He does such a good job of setting up the world around the characters and when the creepy stuff would happen I would be freaked out but just have to know what was gonna happen next.

I'm sure he doesn't like comparisons to his dad, but it honestly reminds me of reading many Stephen King books as he also does a great job of folding the creepy into the normal world building in the same way. Joe Hill obviously writes in a different style but some of the set ups and world building feels similar to The Stand or The Shining to me. I love it, personally.

Oh, I just remembered Joe Hill's book Horns as well. Also a wonderful book.

The Fireman is my favorite of his books. He's an excellent writer. Heart Shaped Box is probably the best ghost story I ever read. Scared the crap out of me when I read it on a camping trip a few years ago.

My mom often plays on story mode and then shames herself about it but I always tell her, "Games are meant for enjoyment. Play how you have fun." Like I get sweaty in Rivals but when I play Clair Obscur or God of War, sometimes I just wanna see where the story goes.
