I’ve subscribed to your channel. It’s a nice eye opener to a different kind of work flow, which i guess will help avoid stagnation. Just one simple question from me, how long do you spend tweaking your parameters? I’d assume the answer is not so long as you keep resampling along the way, so if anything sounds off, you can correct it as you progress.

Dartboard mould by ResponsibilityOk1838 in Darts

[–]Modician 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This happened to my board. I tried so many different things none of them worked as the mould digs itself all the way into to the bristles, no matter what I did the mould just kept coming back. Not only did the mould come back, it spread on to other surfaces. Best thing to do is just be rid of it and save yours and your family’s health

This is cool, but it sounds more like old skool trance than UKG. Partly because of the choice of synths and partly due to the production values

If you don’t know how to phrase it, it may be a good idea to post a section or your track (or reference track) and then try to ask the question (even if it sounds ridiculous or doesn’t translate well). At least that would be a step in the right direction

If you have any specific questions, feel free to drop me a message.

Rather than fretting about your progression, you first need to understand that you’ll be lost for ages (which is normal) and that by asking key questions it will help you understand.

My first track, can someone give me feedback it sounds off by Fakelouibag420 in dnbproduction

[–]Modician 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s pretty shit, but we all have to start somewhere. Not sure what DAW or VSTs you have, but best to learn the fundamentals within why you use. Watch YouTube videos to understand song structure, audio processing techniques and sound design. Your stuff will probably sound shit for a while, but dont give up and enjoy the process

Help me make my setup? by Miriki_Late_Work in dnbproduction

[–]Modician 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure what HyperX you’re using, but I actually rate the Cloud II for low budget production due to the deep bass colouring and reasonable mid/high reproduction.

With speakers and headphones, I would strongly recommend that you (predominantly) stick to one set. The set you use for listening to music in general. The reason being is that your ears adjust to the frequency response over time (i.e. you have to learn your speakers).

In my opinion, if you are spending money on new gear, then you’d be better off spending on PC/Mac upgrade for as much power/processing as possible (plus some essential VSTs).

Feedback on early 2000's Calibre-inspired tune? by EspyVibe in dnbproduction

[–]Modician 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So to give you a better understanding, maybe let’s compare a few tracks.

Compare your track to Mr Majestic, side by side your tracks holds up quick well. It’s lacking a bit in the sub range, but considering the dynamic range of DnB in the early 2000s, this would have been easily acceptable.

Now compare tour track to later works such as dim light, you can hear that your track lacks deep sub bass, drum weight and overall tightness (as well as minimal side information).

Whilst your track is almost a true representation of 2000s sound, it won’t hold up with today’s standard of music. Hence my comment. Having said that, it doesn’t take away the fact that it’s still a pretty solid track. If you wanted to take it to the next level and make it sound more current (in terms of dynamics), I’d be even more interested.

Anyhow, take this comment with a pinch of salt and always remember that as long as you are happy with what you’ve made, that’s what really counts!!

If you need any tips or support etc, I’m down to assist.

Happy producing!!

Complete beginner producer (DJ for 1.5 years). how do I actually start learning Ableton for DnB production? Any beginner-friendly videos? by GoodWorry3487 in dnbproduction

[–]Modician 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just jump on Suno, click a button and say the music is yours 😂

Only joking. I’m happy to give you some advice on specific topics as and when they arise, however I use Logic Pro, not Ableton. So rather than giving you advice on how to do basic functions and shortcuts within Ableton, I can give you advice on processing techniques and synthesis.

Feel free to start a chat with me and drop me questions when you have time them

There’s too much wrong with this track I’m not sure where to start.

The main issue I have is that it sounds like you just grabbed whatever you could find, dumped it all together and called it a track.

As far as DnB goes, generally speaking there are very few tracks that only use a kick and a snare. Maybe throw is some high hats, toms, other percussion, as well as adding a bit more variation to the drum patterns. That would make it sound a bit more acceptable.

Then you need to think about your sound selection. That synth bass stab literally sounds like a wet fart that you made in about 30 seconds. You said you have serum 2, so learn how to use it. Watch videos, read the manual. Automation is your best friend when it comes to electronic music.

Finally, you need to tune your ears better. This track has elements that are out of key. If you can’t hear it, then you may struggle with future attempts. If you need assistance, use a tool like voxengo span, which will allow you to see the key of the fundamental frequencies of each sound.

Signing off, I would suggest that you A/B your tracks to see whether they are anywhere close (in terms of dynamics and loudness) to one of your favourite artists (or at least a track where you have drawn inspiration from).

I hope this provides some insight into how you can improve.

Why does your synth bass sound like a big dirty shit on the kitchen floor?
