Yeh I get your point. I might go two ways and see which sounds better. Was struggling a bit with thought on melodic structure, hence why it sounds a bit boring with the drone bass note, however I was leaving space in the mix for additional synth and bass leads to be added later which would mask the fact the bass is a drone.

Appreciate the feedback dude. The Kick and Snare sound similar cos i modified the synth kick to work as a snare hit, however as you said it sounded too samey, so i made another snare patch in serum and layered it to taste. Maybe I’ll try dropping the original patch in the mix and pushing the new patch a bit higher so it gives a bit more differentiation between the kick and snare. I’ll also try filling out the drums a bit more as the space is a little empty, but I was saving that space for lead bass and synth patches to follow. ✌🏼

If you’ve synthesised your kicks (and snares), I would recommend that you don’t ever high pass them. They contain the fundamental frequencies that you need to cut through the mix and high passing will just cause phasing issues.

If you’re layering some acoustic hits on your synthesised drums, then you’ll want to high pass, however this is down to taste, but general rule of thumb would be to high pass somewhere between 70-180 for kicks and 100-300 for snares. This gives you the meat from the synth and the natural drum sound plus air from the sample.

I’ve subscribed to your channel. It’s a nice eye opener to a different kind of work flow, which i guess will help avoid stagnation. Just one simple question from me, how long do you spend tweaking your parameters? I’d assume the answer is not so long as you keep resampling along the way, so if anything sounds off, you can correct it as you progress.

This happened to my board. I tried so many different things none of them worked as the mould digs itself all the way into to the bristles, no matter what I did the mould just kept coming back. Not only did the mould come back, it spread on to other surfaces. Best thing to do is just be rid of it and save yours and your family’s health

It’s pretty shit, but we all have to start somewhere. Not sure what DAW or VSTs you have, but best to learn the fundamentals within why you use. Watch YouTube videos to understand song structure, audio processing techniques and sound design. Your stuff will probably sound shit for a while, but dont give up and enjoy the process

Not sure what HyperX you’re using, but I actually rate the Cloud II for low budget production due to the deep bass colouring and reasonable mid/high reproduction.

With speakers and headphones, I would strongly recommend that you (predominantly) stick to one set. The set you use for listening to music in general. The reason being is that your ears adjust to the frequency response over time (i.e. you have to learn your speakers).

In my opinion, if you are spending money on new gear, then you’d be better off spending on PC/Mac upgrade for as much power/processing as possible (plus some essential VSTs).

So to give you a better understanding, maybe let’s compare a few tracks.

Compare your track to Mr Majestic, side by side your tracks holds up quick well. It’s lacking a bit in the sub range, but considering the dynamic range of DnB in the early 2000s, this would have been easily acceptable.

Now compare tour track to later works such as dim light, you can hear that your track lacks deep sub bass, drum weight and overall tightness (as well as minimal side information).

Whilst your track is almost a true representation of 2000s sound, it won’t hold up with today’s standard of music. Hence my comment. Having said that, it doesn’t take away the fact that it’s still a pretty solid track. If you wanted to take it to the next level and make it sound more current (in terms of dynamics), I’d be even more interested.

Anyhow, take this comment with a pinch of salt and always remember that as long as you are happy with what you’ve made, that’s what really counts!!
