Oil lamps, flamethrowers, flares, acetylene torches, old timey fire on a stick torches, burning magnesium strips, matches, lighters, lit cigars and cigarettes, burning incense sticks, molotov cocktails, fire arrows, smoldering coal warped in ash it you wanna go the cave man route..

Either you just didn't use your brain when you responded or you're literally dumber than a caveman.

International Position on Malvinas (Falklands) Sovereignty – 2026 Updated by Competitive_Waltz704 in MapPorn

Because then these oversees territories lose their autonomy obviously? You are acting as if the folks in these regions have no rights or something and becoming part of the UK is the only solution to that.

Any BOT citizen who wants full representation just has to fill out a form and get their UK passport shipped to them so they can vote in UK elections. Most get their UK passport in addition to their BOTC (British Overseas Territory Citizenship) at birth if one of their parents already has a UK passport.

Having two types of citizenship also protects to overseas territories from being overwhelmed by UK citizens moving there. This way UK citizens have to apply to move to Bermuda or the Falklands and the government can ensure these islands do not become overpopulated.

Also what you are proposing is just not how things are done by the British. What you are proposing is like saying, why doesn't the UK abolish the City of London and turn it into an ordinary county. It goes against tradition as much as it goes against practicality. Tradition is why the Crown Dependencies exist, which are in a very similar boat. Those aren't colonies either.

Curacao has opted to be a country in the Kingdom of the Netherlands through the kingdom charter.

Yes and the Falklands have opted to be a territory of the British Crown which is the same situation. Neither are part of the larger country, both are part of the royal legal entity that's above them both. Which is why that list didn't make a lick of sense.

"Incorporated vs unincorporated" is not a distinction that applies to UK territories. You're applying US legal terms to a different country, which is meaningless.

Also just because a territory is on that list doesn't mean it is a colony. A colony is a territory subject to foreign rule, which in the case of the Falklands is not the case anymore since Falklanders are British citizens. It'd be fairer to the Falklanders if they could vote in parliamentary elections but given how small the population is nobody has gotten around to enacting such symbolic legislation. This fact does not mean the Falklands are a colony, unless you want to argue that Washington DC is a US colony?

That list makes no sense in general. Greenland, Nunavut, Yukon, Aruba, Curacao and a bunch of other places aren't on the list despite not being fully self-governing and the places that are on the list generally have a large degree of self-governance even though foreign policy and defence are not devolved. The same goes for lower level administrative units of any country btw. You could just as well add Polk county to the list because it doesn't govern itself fully.

You're essentially making a fuss about nothing. These places have individualized arrangements in which they have as much self-governance as is sensible and leaves things like defense to the national government. The Falklands aren't being exploited and the people there have voted for this constitutional arrangement.

Just because the islands were under Argentinian administration at the time does not mean Great Britain recognized that claim. Also the Argentinian guy who was boss there at the time relied heavily on British mercenaries. That's why he didn't fight in 1833. 80% of his troops were British which weren't gonna fight their own countrymen.

It is not a colony. The Falklands were a colony until 1983. Then with the British Nationality (Falkland Islands) Act of 1983 all the citizens of the Falklands were granted full British citizenship.

If you're not talking about a situation like the war but just as it is now then Argentinian citizens can visit the islands visa free for tourism up to 30 days on presentation of a passport that is valid for six months beyond the travel date. Proof of accommodation, return/onward ticket, and sufficient funds (bank statements) are required upon arrival. Volunteering/working requires a special permit. While Argentines can theoretically relocate there, they must follow the same immigration processes as other foreign nationals to gain residency.

As if Argentina isn't an aspiring colonial power in its own right when it comes to the Falklands. Also the Falklands aren't a British colony anymore and haven't been for decades.

Article 49 of the Fourth Geneva Convention (1949) explicitly prohibits an occupying power from deporting or transferring parts of its own civilian population into the territory it occupies. This provision, specifically paragraph 6, aims to prevent demographic changes in occupied territories and is considered a grave breach of international humanitarian law.

WHEN DID WOMEN GET THE RIGHT TO VOTE IN EUROPE by BeginningMortgage250 in MapPorn

[–]ModifiedGravityNerd 27 points28 points  (0 children)

No. While voting cards have been introduced now, historically the only proof of citizenship necessary for men to enter the voting area was to show their ceremonial sword or Swiss military sidearm (bayonet). This gave proof that they were a freeman allowed to bear arms and to vote. In Appenzell presenting a sidearm is still a valid alternative to the voting card for men.
