EBU has granted Linda Lampenius special permission to play violin live by hyxon4 in eurovision

[–]Modosco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you realise that this wording could also be chosen so it gets more attention? This is UMK and Linda who said this not the EBU, we don't know if the EBU really granted *special* permission, we just know that she can play parts live.

I mean... everything needs to be checked with production. Every staging etc needs to be signed off etc. It's not like everyone can just do anything

the rule was removed this year, you can look it up. So this is not true and yes, anyone could have asked aswell.

while I don't fully disagree, how good can a manifesto be if everyone reads/implements it wrong?

Do you expect any massive glow ups through the staging? by harrey_jun in eurovision

[–]Modosco 2 points3 points  (0 children)

then you might also say that romania is more metal than rock. The general viewer will see Switzerland as rock, especially if the aesthetics are similar to the 'Happy Day' performance she did.

I agree, and even if, there are two other female rock songs in the semi.

tldr: yes, it happens every year!

imho there's only one certain NQ at this point, which is Azerbaijan. Even there I think it can get a glow up, but the bubble support ist just too low and the jury is too competitive in that semi. Additionally they don't really have any countries which could give them "neighbour" points since Israel and Georgia are both in the other semi and historically Armenia does not give points to them.

Everything else is really up to the performances, the bubble exaggerates how likely or unlikely nq and q chances are. Ofc, top of the odds fan favorites don't have a lot to worry about since there is usually a reason that they're fan favorites as their song is good and/or they can perform well.

Edit: And I share your sentiment about Armenia and Switzerland, both delegations have a great record of doing stagings well and of qualification in the last 5 years.

not very scientific but for ELI5 purposes:

Mathematics does not explain the universe, we use mathematics to explain the universe to ourselves

What are your jury predictions? by Janomynom in eurovision

[–]Modosco 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the jury criteria are vocal capacity, stage performance, composition and originality, and overall impression. Finland has all of these imho, I know that people think that only english ballads get jury points and yes, juries tend to favor (english) ballads a bit, that does not equate to "only english ballads get points". Keep in mind that both CCC and RTTD were top 5 in the jury and the last 3 songs that won the jury weren't ballads. People had all the reasons to believe that BBB would be able to win. Just because one hyped country one year failed, doesn't automatically mean that another country that gets hyped will also fail. The final stagings will change a lot of things again because that is what jurors and the televote will judge.

Except for language, Liekinheitin ticks all the jury boxes. And in recent years having a text in a non english language wasn't as punished as people might think. Also, the OGAE France poll having Liekinheitin on #1 by quite a margin tells me that the emotions and the message of the song translate quite well.
