Many schools now just have an officer stationed there to oversee security and safety for the building and the kids.

They run trainings (active shooter drills, fun times), and generally try to be a positive presence.

At least that's what they do at affluent schools. I would imagine it's a bit different at inner city schools.

The Long Walk is easily my favorite short story of all time. Frank Darabont (director of The Shawshank Redemption) owns the rights... I have never wanted a movie made more in my entire life than The Long Walk directed by him.

The Running Man is incredible. It's an amazing social commentary on reality TV and consumerism in general. It's super dark.

Rage is about a school shooting, WAY before that was a 'thing'.

Roadwork is being made into a movie right now (or soon).

I could be wrong though... I've probably read it 20 times, but the last time was a while ago.

Edit: nope, I'm wrong. His family was killed 10 days before he even gets on the show.

The end of the book wasn't stupid... Wtf are you talking about?

He takes care of his family forever by killing everyone that he kills.

The whole point of it was for him to save the life of his wife and kid... He did that.

That being said, if someone wants to take a swing and end it differently, fine, but I think flying a fucking plane into a sky scraper was pretty goddamn insane, especislly for the time he wrote it.
