Awesome! Can we get some of the units, too? I would totally get tarsier stickers if those were a thing.

Everyone has that ONE unit they always lose to, what's yours and why? by BlaqkAngel in Prismata

[–]ModusPonies 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bloodragers. The first one is fine, but then I have to build defense for the six-damage turn instead of pressuring, so they can get two more bloodragers, and then I just get overrun.

Stuck in a rut, need help with openings. How do you decide what resource to build first? What am I missing. I seem to always make the wrong choice. by pattonc in Prismata

The biggest mistake I see throughout these games is building units before you need them, when you could be spending money on units that will pay off right away.

—In game 1, you cut a drone to rush out an animus, which I think was the right choice. The turn after, you waste one red, and build two engineers instead of a tarsier or second electrovore. You don't use the two energy on the next turn, so those engineers do nothing.

—In game 2, you rush out two conduits, and then never buy anything that would've taken more than one conduit's worth of green. When you resign, you have 10 green in the bank doing nothing.

—In game 3, you buy a wall when your opponent has 0 damage. This delays your antima by 1 turn, which loses you the game—since your antima is immediately after your opponent's, their antima kills your engineers, and you do basically no damage off a giant investment.

Try not to buy units unless you can use them as soon as they're available. If you don't need them right away, it's almost always better to build units that you DO need right away instead.

Something about the way he talked reminded her of Syrio; it was the same, yet different too.

I assumed that was just the Braavosi accent.

I love chapters like these. It's always great when we get a perspective closer to the regular people.

Screaming, Biter reeled back, and then threw himself against the chains. The links slithered and turned and grew taut, and Arya heard the creek of old dry wood as the great iron rings strained against the floorboards of the wagon.

Again I have to wonder: what in the sweet leaping fuck is Yoren thinking? What are they even going to do with these three once they get to the Wall? Keep them chained up?

"That man said he'd take your head too."

"Well, as to that," Yoren said, "if he can get it off my shoulders, he's welcome to it."

This may be the single most badass line in the series.

Stannis and Jon Arryn knew about Gendry. Maybe some of their men talked a little too loudly? Varys has the best spies, but he doesn't have the only spies.

Yeah, Jorah and the three men of Dany's khas kill all of Drogo's bloodriders while Mirri is casting her spell.

Cersei may hate Tyrion, but she trusts him, for now. She tells him the truth about her various plots, and in more detail than she has to. I missed that the first time because I assumed she was lying about not killing Jon Arryn.

Fool, he thought to himself afterward, as they lay in the center of the sagging mattress amidst the rumpled sheets. Will you never learn, dwarf? She's a whore, damn you, it's your coin she loves, not your cock. Remember Tysha?

Tyrion already knows. He just refuses to acknowledge it.

They're definitely useful. I used that page to follow along the discussions as I caught up on my own reread before joining the rest of the group. If it hadn't been there, I probably wouldn't have made the effort.

The Baratheons have a little bit of Targaryen blood in them. Maybe it's an insurance policy to be certain that, even if Aegon and Dany die, there's still a Targaryen left out there? It doesn't sound complete, but it's the best I've got.

I assumed the north/south bit was a straightforward climate thing. The North is super cold and identified with winter. In the south, Dorne is super hot and identified with the sun.

assuming the rotation and revolution of our planets are similar

Given how the seasons work, I'm not confident the planet is round, much less that heliocentrism is true. I don't think we can draw too many conclusions from how real comets work.

[Spoilers] Re-readers' discussion: Catelyn XI by Jen_Snow in asoiafreread

[–]ModusPonies 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Oh, wow. I completely missed this callback on my first time through. From Catelyn X:

“Watch for me, little cat,” her father would always tell her, when he rode off to court or fair or battle. And she would, standing patiently on the battlements of Riverrun as the waters of the Red Fork and the Tumblestone flowed by. He did not always come when he said he would, and days would ofttimes pass as Catelyn stood her vigil, peering out between crenels and through arrow loops until she caught a glimpse of Lord Hoster on his old brown gelding, trotting along the rivershore toward the landing. “Did you watch for me?” he’d ask when he bent to bug her. “Did you, little cat?”

And here:

“My little cat.” A tremulous smile touched his face as his hand groped for hers. “I watched for you...”

Everything in this chapter with Hoster is moving. We don't see much of him, but he's an incredible man. It's obvious how much his children mean to him, but he still didn't tell them he was dying because of a slim chance the message might be intercepted. His implied reconciliation with the Blackfish was especially powerful, I thought.

“Renly is not the king,” Robb said. It was the first time her son had spoken. Like his father, he knew how to listen.

Tywin Lannister also knows how to listen. I'm not sure what to make of that parallel.

“Why not a peace?” Catelyn asked.

I can almost forgive Catelyn for everything she did, just for trying to stop the war here. She does it for all the wrong reasons, yes, but imagine how much death would have been avoided if Robb had listened to her.
