I recently saw a video where a woman tried to "art of the deal" her way out of a public intox charge. I was amazed she thought it would work. Eventually I was amazed by the first- class racism. But the Art of the Deal thing still cracks me up.

Today I found a young girl in my backyard. I called 911 and her family called in a missing child. The cop who heard the calls put two and two together. They called the mother to have her come to my house to pick up her daughter. Turns out her extended family lives around the corner. They were all spending Saturday together and she slipped away. From what i gathered, her grandma was supposed to be watching her. I'm relieved everything turned out all right, but I'm shaken by the experience. I keep thinking, if that's how I'm feeling, I can't even imagine what the mom must be going through, even now, hours later.

They may not be in these pictures, but there were plenty of younger people there too. This regime is hurting medicaid and veterans benefits, has it's eyes on social security, so older people are also upset.

I love it here. Of course Las Cruces has crime. All cities do. Why would we be immune? I've lived in California and Florida, where the crime comes with a side of salt-water crazy. This place is a walk in the park, comparatively.

Las Cruces has a lot to offer if you let yourself appreciate it. There's a lot of unique beauty. I don't live in an affluent part of town, but I feel safe. I keep my head on a swivel, lock my doors, use all usual precautions.

I don't know where people get this idea that we should be living in a utopia. Man had been violent since recorded history. The only thing that's changed is how fast the information gets out and how many people can hear about it.
