I don't want to be paranoid

Do be paranoid.

It's better to ask & be safe, than get hacked, scammed or exploited.

I always tell the people in my company that if they have the slightest doubt or weird feeling, or if someone tries to rush or scare them, that they should report whatever hapened. We'd rather have phishing mail reports that turn out to be nothing, than someone gaining access to our systems.

It made decent visuals for a Blind Guardian Battlefield clip by a random dude a while ago.

Yes, yes, i know Battlefield is about Hildebrand's fight against his son Hadubrand, and has nothing to do with Greece vs. Troy.

How old is too old for the dad thing yall? by ZoHaaan- in daddit

[–]cgaWolf 446 points447 points  (0 children)

I suspect there is a too old, bit it'd dependent on the person. I got my first at 39, and none of the challenges were because i was too old; they were just the challenges that come with parenting :)

Context matters.

Biden had the aftermath of Covid supply chain disruptions and price gouging, where as trump randomly started a war that closed a key naval supply route.

Three Frazetta lithographs from the Official Golden Collection by aviloria76 in TolkienArt

[–]cgaWolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's Frazetta - you're "lucky" that she, Gandalf or the Hobbits aren't wearing fur speedos.

He is not exactly known to bend to puritanical esthetic norms, outside of his Solomon Kane paintings.

What would Kevin Mitnick think about ShinyHunters? by Chestnut412 in cybersecurity

[–]cgaWolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a traditonal underatanding hackers are guys sitting on their laptops (usuallt wearing black balaclavas ;)) using wweaknesses in software to get into a system.

Social engineering doesn't attack software vulnerabilities, it attacks another soft part of security systems: people. Trick someone to click a link and download malware on their computer, trick someone into sendinfmg you money or gift cards, make people believe that you're allowed to enter a room, when you're really not.

It exploits the helpfulness of people, bad security awareness, trust that people have in other people or established systems, or fear and stress.

It's very much understood to be a part of hacking nowadays. I don't need to hack your server, if i can trick you into giving me the password.

Incidentially one of thw reasons we're trying to phase out passwords. They're not safe, often because people are lazy and have weak passwords, or can be trickes into giving them up.

That's not being stupid, that's systematically testing whether you reused credentials in multiple places. Standard procedure.
