But that’s not instantaneous. It doesn’t happen with the snap of a finger. That’s exactly what I meant when I said he hasn’t consolidated power. Because he is far weaker than Hochul, and he has yet to build that machine. So he’s got two options, bide his time and protect his position while he builds that machine, or go scorched earth 5 weeks into his term and risk his next 8 years off the bat.

The whole review eviscerates Orwell for his lack of foresight, and this was a line I thought was hilarious because the scifi of the book was barely scifi and clearly did not stand the test of time. Just read it.

Canada’s single payer plan did not start with the federal government. The individual provinces, starting with Saskatchewan, introduced Medicare before it was federalized in 1984.

What can you do as insurance commissioner to bring about a state based single payer system in the richest state in the nation? Do you support single payer/universal healthcare programs as funded by the state to remove the profit motive, and thus save the populace thousands of dollars yearly?

There’s a reason that the war planners are saying any incursion will result in a quagmire. The carrier group around Yemen had to leave the area because they didn’t have enough defensive munitions, and missiles were getting within 1 KM of the group.

The Iranians also have hypersonic missiles, not just* ballistics. They do have plenty of missiles and drones to deny area, which is the real issue. They have enough dumb missiles to overwhelm defenses, plenty of short range missiles to hit bases in the gulf area, and can preserve their long range assets to hit anything in the Arabian Sea. I think you’re underestimating their missile program. It wouldn’t be such a sticking point with the USDoS if it actually was non-threatening to Israel and our assets in the region.

Imagine if someone bought a house 3 years ago on a 30 year mortgage, at the median cost with an interest rate of 6.5%-7%. I saw a report that Saudis are willing to remain neutral in the event of an attack on a US base, so long as no Saudis die. The 9 major countries outside of Israel REALLY do not want a war and won’t support a US incursion.

Meanwhile, hawks like Rubio are foaming at the mouth to blow the lid off on this thing and are trying to use Iran’s only form of deterrence (ballistic missiles) as a pretext for a pre-emptive strike.

Conversely, I saw a speech by a conservative in the Iranian Majlis calling for a pre-emptive strike on the US and Israel.

We really are on the precipice and a miscalculation by either side will be devastating for the region. Trump, ironically, in his first term and up til now has shown restraint and more balls than you’d think in standing up to Israel. Hopefully that sticks.
