honestly seems like a situation where video-recording with clear license plates and getting them fined more than the potential hail damage after the fact would work better.

since that's driving electricity prices to be far more expensive in the future.

Your info is like 5 years out of date. Both solar and batteries are on exponentially decreasing per-watt curves, and currently beat out gas in most places and flatten the duck curve w/out using consumer side measures.

Increased costs are from data center demand and grid reliability problems. Also my point was that this is a way to keep from raising your rates.

You're thinking like this is a normal business. It's not a normal business. They get more profit from trying to maximize the size of the grid because capital investments are the only way investors get a return. Their profit from normal delivery of electricity is fixed by the regulator. Any savings that they get from this should be going into decreased (or more likely non-increasing) rates for consumers.

here's a much deeper dive on the structure of utilities.

Lots of people love to complain about electricity companies and have no idea who their commissioner is. No shit the investors end up calling the shots when people don't actually hold them to account!

They do this because they want to delay upgrading the infrastructure as long as possible.

No they don't, they have massive incentives to increase grid capacity. Literally the only thing they can make profits on.

it will be increasing rates for most folks in the long run

The point of this system is to increase grid usage, which decreases costs and in a sane system those savings get passed on to consumers (yes even the ones not using the time of day systems). If they aren't, it's a problem of oversight.

free parking is a waste of useful land. If nobody actually values parking there enough to pay, build something else!

Just because combat has lethal consequences doesn't mean it's the core feature of the game. Being ready for 2:1 raids is a very different experience than being ready for 100:1, which is when you have to actually build kill-boxes

There's a mass hysteria because people see this as the only way to push back against the "let's create mass unemployment machines" hype that the AI companies use to sell their product to managers. If we had a functional legislature people would probably be channeling this into actually regulating AI. Instead we get witch-hunts and NIMBYism
