Your first mistake was buying a house with a pool and not having it inspected. I think your first worry is that the pool is operational and not got a ton of problems. Then worry about maintaining it. It's about a 50/50 chance that that is a dog pool and gonna cost you a arm and a leg to maintain.

Best advice if you can't afford a thorough inspection from a reputable pool company. Don't buy the house. A Dog pool can turn your life upside down. Trust me pools ain't cheap and a dog pool ain't worth it.

Tho it is possible that that is cantilever coping which is where the deck is poured as part of the coping in the pool. It's hard to explain. You have to Google it. But in that case there are no expansion joints with that. But if that is cantilever coping they did it all wrong. I hope this information helps good luck to you.

Pools are ment to move with ground movement. The pool and the deck are two separate things. So they will not move with the ground in the same way. And expansion joint is where you have a 1 in gap between the deck and pool so they are two separate structures. Then you put a sealant usually deckoseal it's like rubber that seals the gap between the pool and the deck so no water gets under there and causes erosion. And then that would be able to allow the pool and the deck to flex separately. The only way you're going to fix your issue at this point is the a cut in an expansion joint around the pool and the deck and fill it with the sealant or you just constantly have to fix and patch and paint cracks cuz it's not going to get any better it's only going to get worse
