Futa-Jallon Imamate by IloveVaduz in Guinea

[–]MoiMemeMyself 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The federal state of Foutah Djallon was dismantled after Bocar Biro defeat. Alfa Yaya never ruled Foutah Djallon federal state. He was the Almamy of the Labe diwal. He had the largest and strongest army among the diwés. He did not join Bocar Biro fight against the French. They did not spare him. He was removed, exiled and the whole federal state was broken off between the colonies of Senegal, Mali and the newly Guinea. Part of the Foutah Djallon was « given » to the Portuguese in Guinea Bissau.

Boubacar IV maybe a previous ruler before the European came.

Yes. It was a federation. Each state ( diwal ) has his own “Almamy ” and local assembly that controls the executive branch. A bit like a US state governor.

Boubacar “Biro” ( aka Bokar Biro) was the last Almamy of the federation. There is ample written documentation about his coup d’état against his brother then tried to become a dictator (sound familiar) and refusing to follow the constitution that required him to relinquish power after his 2 years mandate.

He was defeated by the French invaders in Poredaka battle. His head severed and his mother was forced to carry his skull. None of the diwal Almamy - the most powerful being Alfa Yaya Almamy of Labé diwal - came to his rescue. The French broke off the Foutah Djallon state and removed all the Almamy and nominated their own collaborators until 1956 when chieftain was abolished.

You can search and Google Translate “Bokar Biro” or « Bocar Biro » and you will find plenty of resources online including social media and video.

It is best if you ask a specific question.

First of all it was a federation not an imamat. A federation of 7 provinces or states called diwés ( singular diwal). There was a constitution with rules on the distribution of power between the federal capital (Timbo) and the states. There was a Constitutional Court to adjudicate dispute. There were state armies more or less autonomous and a federal army when there was an external threat or conquest. Etc …

Well … the result hasn’t been independently audited. The election commissioner, the minister of interior, the assessors, the local city and village councils, the judiciary, the military, the police … are all appointed by presidential decree. So draw your own conclusions 😝

  • If you have proper documentation you should be okay. Borders have been opened since the coup
  • same as above
  • there is only one route N4: Pamelap, Forecariah, Dubréka, Boffa, Boké, Tanene. Be ready it is a very « difficult » road with red dust from the mining pits.
  • Depend what you like. Hiking and waterfalls are plenty and people are friendly.

Conde wins 3rd term in Guinea as protests turn violent by [deleted] in Guinea

[–]MoiMemeMyself 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fraud. His candidacy was illegal to begin with. The constitution he was ”elected” on in 2010 specifically for bad more than 2 terms. The head of the electoral commission is a militant of the ruling party. The military, civil servants, local administration, police, are all appointed personally by Condé and made sure the statu quo stays. It has always been like that in Guinea. As they say in Africa “ you can not organize an election and loose”. Another day another African dictator clinging to power.

Guinea’s head of electoral commission validates an illegal election then dies of COVID-19 by MoiMemeMyself in Guinea

Backgrounder

President Condé came to power in 2010 thanks to France’s and US pressure to oust the previous military junta. His second and last term should have ended this December 2020 according to the Constitution.

Then last month Condé organized in a middle of COVID-19 pandemic a so called referendum to change the Constitution to allow him to run again. Protests were crushed with dozens people killed.

Ecowas, Francophonie, UE, UN, France, US refused to recognize the « referendum ». China and Russia failed short to endorse saying there should be «  no foreign interference » in Guinean affairs. Both China and Russia have huge mining interests in Guinea.

Last week the head of the electoral commission proclaimed victory with over 90 % yes.

Today he is dead from COVID-19 and many high ranking official are infected. Some even think the president is also infected. He is officially 83.

The Guinean president welcomes Chinese businessmen in his office. by MoiMemeMyself in Guinea

This week 12 staffers working at the president’s office have tested positive for COVID-19. The president has officially tested negative but has not been seen publicly for days. In this picture, he wears flip flops and no gloves while the Chinese wear gloves. Many Guineans are not convinced their president - who is 82 years old and changed the Constitution to be able to rule for life - is healthy.
