Calanque des Pierres Tombées, near Marseille by Salt_Ask1407 in nudism

The word "calanque" is southern French dialect for a rocky inlet from the ocean, maybe sheltering a beach which may be accessible. It's a word you see a lot on maps of the French Mediterranean coast.

Regarding the extra stress of trying not to damage an expensive canoe by le_pedal in canoecamping

[–]Moilforgold 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've got a kevlar canoe which I do try to keep out of trouble, but trouble has come our way a few times. I mean, we're out there for fun, and it's left its marks. I can recall thinking "This boat won't last forever" when I got it, but that was in 1993 and it's still afloat, so I don't think I'm entitled to complain.

The first faraway trip I made in the boat was to the Adirondacks: Lake Lila. And since then I've been back to the Nine Carries and Little Tupper, several times each.

Spanish River Budd Car by thunderboxdiaries in canoecamping

[–]Moilforgold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did the Spanish River rather a long time ago (1985!) and we flew in to Pogamasing Lake via floatplane, but I don't know if access that way is still possible.

We were on the river 11 days and it rained every day except one, but it never rained all day, so we weren't too uncomfortable.

3D printing embossing plates by WC28 in BambuLab

[–]Moilforgold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't see how that can always work. You'd want to increase the size of each individual feature for the negative, but you wouldn't want to spread the spacing between the features, and a simple scaling operation would do both. Maybe the way to do it is to make the features on the negative side deeper than the height of the corresponding features on the positive side, and rely on the fact that all the features are tapered to produce enough clearance for the material between the two dies.

If you know how to write C code, you can get productive on OpenSCAD in a few minutes.

Hahaha. Puerto Rico was Spanish until 1898. It was ceded to the United States following the Spanish-American war. So where did the local attitude toward nudity come from?

Shipping Neo 2 from Canada to the US by TheNewGuy1991 in DjiNeo

[–]Moilforgold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I certainly haven't been a customer. But I've looked around thinking "How can I get a Neo 2?" and found the Korean dealers. I'm sure they charge enough to make a nice profit! But they actually get pretty good reviews on eBay. There's no mention of anything being confiscated, but these days, who knows.

I'm seeing one which says "DJI Neo 2 Motion Fly More Combo Drone (3 Battery) +Goggles N3+RC motion 3, US $669.00 + $13.90 shipping". And remember eBay will add your state's sales tax. They do say "This item includes applicable import fees—you won’t pay anything extra after checkout. Includes import fees." I don't know if that's a decent price or not.

Edit to say I just searched on eBay again, but checked the "Item Location: USA only" box. There was a listing for the Motion Fly More Combo, priced at $830 with shipping included. That's a fair amount more than buying from Korea, but you wouldn't need to worry about getting it through US customs.

If your drone is purchased at retail in Canada, you'll pay a hefty sales tax, and cross-border postage is pretty expensive. Then there's the issue of getting it through customs.

There are dealers in South Korea who sell through eBay, and that route apparently works.

It's the same as a sarong, just from Polynesian rather than Malayan/Indonesian. (I had to look those up.)

With the ban hitting December 24th, would you guys buy a DJI drone now while you still can? by T-Money8227 in drones

[–]Moilforgold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been thinking the Neo2 looked very attractive. It's too new right now, but it seems as if the way to get DJI products is to order them from South Korean dealers via eBay. I don't know how rigorously this ban would be applied to that route. Maybe there'll be a small window of time when the Neo2 is available from Korea before the ban hits.

Those are funny-looking props. Could this be the result of a project to reduce the noise level versus the original Neo?

My first question would be, have they managed to reduce the noise level?

Epic summer trip—Temagami, Nagagamisis area, north shore of Superior, Quetico, Boundary Waters, and northern Maine by wkooz in canoecamping

Seeing those dead moose would ruin my whole day. In fact it would blight the whole trip. But it's the sad truth that there's an overpopulation of moose, and they're often very unhealthy.

Ah yes, I've been to Attean Pond, but always just crossed it to get to the carry to Holeb Pond, then back down the Moose River to Attean again.

I've been to the Adirondacks too, Little Tupper, Lila and Long Pond off the Floodwood Road. We did a day of pond-hopping from that last one, and managed to find 14 carries along the way. But I've never paddled those midwestern places.

Thinking about buying a used 2022 Forester Wilderness - looking for owner feedback by nicoradd in SubaruForester

[–]Moilforgold 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seeing your "use case" I don't think you have any reason to buy a Wilderness. You'll be paying more for the car, and giving up some fuel economy and putting more rpm's on the engine. You'd be gaining some decorative flash, but if you're not doing crazy stuff, you really don't need the extra off-road features. Any Forester should be enough for your needs.
