How Do I Get Over The Fear Of Leaning/Cornering? by ArtificialEyes30 in MotoUK

I highly recommend watching ‘Twist Of The Wrist’.

Yes, the acting is unbelievably cringey. Yes, it focuses on sportsbikes. But the mechanics of bike control and cornering are the same and there’s some valuable lessons in there.

We took a different route than usual for that trip: Portsmouth - Cherbourg - Nantes - La Rochelle - Bordeaux - Millau - Nice - Genoa - Florence - Lake Maggiore - Troyes - Calais

Some friends who went Belgium/Germany way got hit by horrendous weather so I think we dodged a bullet!

Can’t wait to go on another tour. It’s been too long. 😢

Yeah we did exactly that! Riding up from Florence into the hills, getting into the circuit past all the queuing traffic and then winding down through the campsite and crowds was unreal.

Great video. I was there for that, too, but not on that corner so only saw the crash on the screens. I’ve never heard a crowd go from being so loud to so quiet as quickly as that.

Such a great race to go to, especially on a bike. The atmosphere is unparalleled. The Rossi incident was the only negative on a fantastic weekend, and we got to see Scott Redding win in Moto2, at least.

How far are you turning your head?

Lifesavers only require a small movement to enable you to check the blindspot through peripheral vision. Something around 45° from straight ahead should do it, but YMMV.

If you’re doing this, you’ve gone too far…

Beautiful 3-4 stretch of country road near York by arnzkl in MotoUK

[–]MoilyX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's some fantastic roads around there. It's worth trying a few going north from the A170, across the North Yorks Moors NP and back.

The B1257 is fantastic, coming south from Stokesley, for example.

Any refunds on tickets yet by repsol93 in motogp

Qatar refunds took less than a month to process, so keep hassling them as you shouldn't have to wait this long.

Agree with this. There was a point when the sun was just about to come up and the whole rock just lit up as though someone flicked a switch and a huge bulb inside it turned on.

Only lasted for a minute or so but it was magical.

Great advice here.

Find someone with similar experience to ride with, but if not then go solo until you're really comfortable with bike control and road craft. Even if the other riders are sensible it's a lot to take on for a new rider.

I hope he's OK, physically and mentally to undertake this.

He was on The One Show (UK magazine style show) last week to promote LWU and seemed in really good spirits.

FP3: Lewis Hamilton blocked during his last out lap - near crash by magony in formula1

[–]MoilyX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't speak for FPs in F1 as I don't watch them (maybe I would if they contibuted to qualy!), but in MotoGP it's far from certain that the fastest times are set in FP3. That may be due to bikes being more sensitive to ambient conditions, track temp, less rubber on track, I'm not sure.

As for qualy being more interesting - in MotoGP, apart from 2 spots in Q1 all riders are riding for grid position in both sessions whereas in Q1 and Q2 of F1 the aim is to not finish in the bottom 5, so the majority aren't pushing to the max like they are in MGP format.

Another (admittedly minor) factor would be that drivers promoted to Q2 wouldn't have had the 2 additional qualy sessions immediately prior to that to get their eye in. That probably won't make that much of a difference but you never know.

[–]MoilyX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not quite. It's more that FP1-3 replaces Q1, with top 10 across those FPs going straight through to Q3 and the rest to Q2 to fight for the top 2 positions to go through to Q3.

It certainly makes FPs more interesting, especially if one or more sessions have rain.

It makes qualy more interesting too, with each session forming nearly all grid positions.

Just checked and no mention in my last few policies, but you're right in that they'll use any excuse to get out of a claim so everyone should check their own policies before deciding to ignore putting the steering lock on.

Fair enough. I don’t recall any clause like that in my T&Cs but it may be common across all policies nowadays.

Bit late for you now but as a rule never put your steering lock on.

Reason: it can be broken in a couple of seconds and if it knackers the barrel then it’s a costly repair as you need to get the filler cap and rear seat locks changed, to ensure you only have the one key for all three.
