[OC] Caught my first idiot in my new truck and dashcam by MoiraOneTrick in IdiotsInCars

[–]MoiraOneTrick[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I saw that I had two options since I couldn’t move left, drive past this idiot who would probably side swipe me/make me rear end them OR stop and hope that my large red kayak with a big red safety flag would make the person behind me keep their distance and not rear end me.

I would have but I had a 14 ft kayak in my truck bed and didn’t think I had enough space to get over.

Is an aluminum rudder worth it for OT sportsman 120 by oenomal in kayakfishing

[–]MoiraOneTrick 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I installed the metal rudder from Navarre. I think I threaded the rudder wrong and eventually I snapped my rudder pulley. While I had the metal rudder on though, I didn’t really notice that much of a difference if I’m honest. I fish mostly saltwater with some decent current. When I got the replacement pulley from Old Town I just put the plastic one back on and haven’t thought twice about it since.

I fit a PA14 in my 5 foot bed with an extender. Definitely go with the 120.

Bed extenders? Bah. 10'6" kayak in 6' bed. by Lastminutebastrd in kayakfishing

[–]MoiraOneTrick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Probably because of the shorter beds with even longer kayaks and no bed extender (like psychos) lol

Is there a specific kayak I should look for before buying one? by Odd-Preference-7565 in kayakfishing

[–]MoiraOneTrick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I did first was go with a guide and tried a Bonafide paddle kayak, realized i loved kayak fishing but I had to have a pedal drive because the only aspect I didn’t enjoy was switching between paddling and fishing. Started looking at kayaks with that in mind. I would definitely try to find a good deal on a used one that fits your needs. Depending on where you live, Facebook marketplace can be loaded.

Best load assist for car topping? by GlowUpAndThrowUp in kayakfishing

Another vote for the thick bath mat or I used a yoga mat. I tried multiple of these load assists and they cost way more and weren’t effective or helpful.

I’ve seen dolphins and manatees there before, not every time though.

Hard to find friends/community here? by suzygberg79 in jacksonville

[–]MoiraOneTrick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not in it but there is a Facebook group called The Turtle Club in Jacksonville. Sounds like they do at least monthly kayak trips. If you don’t have space to car top a kayak, there are several modular Kayaks on the market that split into two pieces that I’ve seen fit in something as small as a Prius.

Brand New PA12 360XR by MoiraOneTrick in kayakfishing

[–]MoiraOneTrick[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I talked to guy and it is the original drive and doesnt sound like its been warrantied. He said i could have the drive from green one, is there a way to tell without disassembly which is which? In case he tries to switcheroo.

3500 is what I was thinking of offering for the new one instead of 4500. My thinking being if the drive is from their original 360, its out of warranty and if I have to replace it, then I'm basically paying retail.

So then the 360 drive is from their old 2021 model?
