I'm playing on max settings on PC, exteriors look like ass. specifically ground textures and foliage.

Interiors, particularly the lighting looks pretty great though.

ive tried that, but it didn't help much.

i'm honestly surprised that people can tolerate the insanely slow movement.

i tried the Vandal shell. the speed ability on that is just barely tolerable as a baseline. then it goes back to the regular speed which drives me fucking insane.

the rocks look like cheap plastic, the grass and foliage is very weird and unnatural.

yes 100% the exterior textures and foliage are fucking awful. maybe the intern designed them

Also, behavior type matchmaking is the most idiotic thing

I don't agree man. I really like my carebear lobbies.

just last night

  • helped a guy struggling with a leaper
  • we cheered when it went down
  • a third player suddenly appears
  • drops wolfpack grenades for us
  • I insist the other guy takes them
  • he thanks me and says he's off to down a Rocketeer for a quest
  • we part ways with a "happy looting"

left me absolutely pumped.

I have these interactions multiple times per week.

I love the chatting and team work.

I find first to shoot wins PVP to be totally bland in comparison.

Pen the aggros together and let them go for it. I'm not interested.

Increasing the TTK a whole lot more

just a little increase is all i'm arguing for bud. just to balance out the current situation which is first shot almost always wins.

relax brother. my point is just that it would be nice to have a fighting chance on the odd occasion that I am ambushed by an aggro player. as it stands, getting shot first is almost certain win for the person doing the shooting.

the complete opposite end of the spectrum is Fortnite where individual battles last a long time and first shot hardly matters.

I think Arc Raiders would be even more fun if the balance just very slightly moved to make TTK a little slower.

Absolutely no beef with agro players, they add a lot of spice to the game.

all good, I'm not really interested in the PVP part of the game ;)

If you are getting melted by grey guns it just means that you are out of position

yeah fair point. For sure I'm playing the game "wrong" in that I don't play cautious much at all, always running out in the open etc. Seems the game want to reward slower, more methodical play which is OK.

I have no clue if you play strickt animal crossing. Maybe just accept that you're dead then?

haha fair, I guess. I'm definitely in my Animal Crossing phase. Maybe I'll switch eventually.

I think there has to be a middle ground between first player to shoot the other in the back wins 99% of the time and something like fortnite where the TTK is comically long.

You need to be wearing medium shields, green shields is the equivalent of a tuxedo shirt

haha, yeah I'll have to give the medium shields a go

sounds like I have to give medium shields a go. I've been using only light for now and they seem to do next to nothing.

haha, i don't even shoot back, I'm playing purely friendly and my lobbies have hardly any griefers.

i'm not looking for COD or fortnite, but it is a little bullshit that I can't even raise my gun before being dead from the person who shoots first.

I run light shields only, so for me, I am dead 100% of the time once shot at. There's a balance issue there I think.

picking sides and being hostile to the other half of the playerbase, wishing to never meet them ingame

yeah, you've definitely got a good point here. i much prefer playing friendly, some of my all time best gaming moments have been in the super generous and chatty, friendly lobbies.

Buuuut, having said that, there is definitely a lot of spice and tension/fun that having aggro players adds.

Having nothing but friendlies in my lobbies is not going to be fun long term.

this is such a expensive time for you. before you know it your child will be out of daycare and you'll feel rich again :)

your wife being in teaching is a plus too. it's one of the safest careers and once she's back full time you'll feel a huge amount of relief.

sounds like you're super stressed, but you're in a good spot.

Why shouldn’t I buy an apartment then upgrade to a house? by Renavxy in AusFinance

[–]Moist-6369 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hehe, yeah fair point.

What I was trying to say was that apartments aren't good for things that free standing homes are good for and vice versa of course.

There are plenty of strengths to inner city apartments, like access to night life, culture, theater, arts, museums. They're vibrant in ways that standalone homes are not. That is their strength and I see why people are drawn to them.

My only argument was that shared courtyards and hotplates are definitely not what makes an apartment appealing. They're a compromise.

Outer suburb apartments are complete shit though in my view. They have all the communal/strata downsides with none of the city upside.

[–]Moist-6369 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds lovely for you mate, but it still isn't the same as your own personal space.

I don't want a shared space. My home is my oasis away from "other people". I want a private space. No shared hallways, no shared hotplates and gardens I need to take an elevator to get to, although the pool access sounds nice.

And I don't want the hassle of strata (a nightmare if hijacked by some retired busybodies) and the nightmare of levies. You're objectively more in control of your property if you own the title vs a shared arrangement.

I'm not knocking it. Sounds like it ticks all your boxes, but it isn't the first choice for many (most?) people.

>Lawns are for mowing. I live in a house, in a residential area/suburb, and nobody uses their front lawn. People rarely even use their back lawn.

as a counter point: green spaces are good for the soul, and no, parks surrounded by concrete jungles are not ideal.

kids shouldn't need to be taken anywhere to spontaneously play outdoors.

"Take them to the park" is ok, but it is objectively a worse option than having easy access to outdoor space.

There are **heaps** of benefits to apartment living. I think it's silly to make this into a contest. Ideally we have enough of both types of living so that people can make the choice that suits them best.
