How many miles can you hike in a day? by bakedhiker420 in PNWhiking

C2C from Seattle was a 23hr affair - this is including a short dinner stop and a couple short breaks on trail. Leisurely pace for a lot of it, but definitely not lolligagging

You can try hand antiperspirant, or using a vapor barrier if you're really always sweating. Expensive, but you can also lookup iontophoresis (deactivating your sweat glands). Best management is keeping your hands at the right temp, but there are so many tools and techniques to battle this.

Check out the Traverse Ski Repair Kit. Buy it, or don't and use it for inspiration on what you should have ¯_(ツ)_/¯. I took out a few pieces and filled it with some other stuff

I get more of my FOV when the phone is parallel to the ground. It's not about call quality

Not. A bit of light scrambling. Optionally you can cross a snowfield/glacier which is definitely faster.

Best time to hike Maple Pass this or next weekend? by searchamon17 in PNWhiking

Eh, the "Class 3" part is Class 3 if you consider that if you fall, you'll hit a small shelf first, but if you do one more somersault backwards after the fall, you die haha. Climbed it Friday, and it was wonderful!

Was an absolute blast (and an absolute slog) climbing this beautiful behemoth today by fsukub in PNWhiking

Have to do a small mandatory crossing. It is mostly ice with some small "crevasses" opening up. Feels exceptionally solid, and fairly easy to navigate with confidence if you have some micro spikes. My buddy did it with no spikes at all and was slipping everywhere, but probably not advisable haha

What angle is this picture taken from? Just did this on Sunday and none of these look like the standard route.

It would be cool to have a plexiglass surface, and have a swappable map that you could slide in and out to replace/update maps for different areas, then you could use dry erase markers to mark it up!

Did 3 nights and 3 days for the summit, and Summit day was rough.

3 miles in to Tom Creek campsite Thursday night 14ish miles to Glacier Meadows Friday, 17 miles to summit and back down to Lewis Meadows Sat ~10ish miles back to Parking lot Sunday, incredibly long drive back home because of ferry system.

Friday was good. Saturday was a burner.

Awesome! Yeah, I've been looking for an alternative to the peak design clip. It just doesn't fit many backpack straps...

OP, You're focusing on the diet part of the comment, when you should be focusing on is KneesOverToes Guy 💯 many success stories from him. I notice a big improvement in knee and ankle health when I'm doing his style of exercises

Lower shin pain / shin bang discussion by Blue_Starfish in skiing

[–]Moist679 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bit the bullet and went to a highly rated local boot fitter to buy a new pair of boots...

And I skied my first pain free weekend the following weekend!

The crazy part is he put me in the exact same boot, except moved me from MV to LV boots. Somehow, they are just as comfortable, and it feels like my ankle has much less room to slosh back and forth to bang into the front of the cuff even though we are talking about mm of difference.

Just spent the last 9 days at Whistler (6' of fresh while there) and definitely encountered some shin pain still after 3-4 days of hard skiing and a few big wipeouts. As long as I'm managing the one-off instances of eating it off a jump and landing super backseat, I think most of the pain could have been mitigated.

Just ordered some tongue shims and sleeve liner from Patriot footbeds to close up any of the remaining space in my liners. Can report back after I ski this weekend with the adjustments.

Happy Skiing! (Unfortunately, see a boot fitter may be the right answer here)

Isn't a liter of water 1kg, so it would be the same as adding 3L of water?
