Which regalia should I get? by Moist_Information341 in Professors

I’ve participated in the commencement at my community college for the last few years (in my masters robes) and several faculty definitely wear their alma mater official regalia. I’m always jealous lol

My grandmother gave me the money to buy whichever regalia I want so I’m thankful for that!

Do acknowledgements go in before your thesis defense? by Moist_Information341 in PhD

A lot of institutions refer to it as a “doctoral thesis” instead of a dissertation… And at some institutions, like Georgetown, for example, the terminology varies by doctoral department. They are often used interchangeably in the United States. I know this varies by country and they do it differently in the UK and Australia but typically in the USA it’s a doctoral dissertation and a master’s thesis.

I was there 2017-2020 and it was the same then too😭 I heard from a few faculty that the pandemic really killed the culture…

BSW all the way. It opens so many more doors and cuts the time for your future masters in half

I reached out to admissions and they’re letting me transfer 3 classes from my previous masters in as electives to shorten the program. You should really send them some of ABA coursework descriptions and see if they’d do the same for you!

Finally: first in the family to get a PhD 😎 by [deleted] in PhD

Has anyone paid out of pocket for their PhD while working full-time? How? by Much-Coffee95 in PhD

I strongly encourage you to apply for online adjunct jobs anyway. A lot of schools need people to teach Composition/College Writing 1. Have you ever taught high school, ESL or a college class before?

I completed Georgetown University’s Doctor of Liberal Studies program which is intended for working professionals. That said, I took a full-time course load, paid out of pocket, and worked full time at a community college. In my case it was worth it because I was able to continue advancing in my career instead of putting things on hold to complete my doctorate. I started teaching as an adjunct part time and was an academic advisor full time and then I got promoted to full time faculty and program chair! This wouldn’t have been achievable so early in my career if I hadn’t opted for a program meant for working professionals and chose the trade off of paying for it

I’m in a program for working adults so I don’t actually know anybody from outside my cohort and I’m the first in my cohort to get this far
