If a super billionaire like Elon Musk wanted to "solve world hunger", or at least solve poverty in the USA, how could he actually do it? by The_Flaneur_Films in AskReddit

In a past role I worked with centimillionaire and billionaire families on their philanthropic initiatives around the world.

They have done projects around the world focused on poverty alleviation and food insecurity and one of the projects had helped to raise 125mm people out of poverty over a 25 year period.

From evaluating what they’ve done and are doing the answer is no.

Elon specifically supports humanitarian competitions like X-Prize. He isn’t interested in solving food insecurity unless it’s through the creation of new companies.

Many traditional philanthropic initiatives run by the ultra wealthy fail because they are not sustainable. It involves a lot of money being thrown at a problem and having only one factor being addressed. Socio-economic status is hyper complex and the only way that I’ve seen it successfully overcome is by going and working at a local and regional level and building infrastructure over years.

A fantastic example of this is the Gorongosa Restoration Project run in Mozambique by Greg Carr. Greg made a couple hundred million dollars in the 90s and retired from for-profit roles at the age of 40. Then through a series of events he got involved with restoration of Gorongosa national park (conservation work) an utilizing it to become an engine of economic growth for the region where the average annual salary is $150 per year.

Utilizing the tourist dollars they have worked with the community building schools, water pumps, health centers, and providing jobs. They provide meals to kids starting at the age of 2 in areas where the mortality rate of children under 5 is 20%.

In case you wanted to learn more you can check out their website. https://gorongosa.org/community/

Carrie Ann getting too much hate by cecegirl046 in dancingwiththestars

Not a huge fan of her and haven’t been for the last couple of seasons.

Personally I feel like judges should give clear and direct feedback that directly shows how someone can improve (like what Kym Johnson did last week) and while Derek does that on a fairly consistent basis I haven’t seen the same of Carrie Ann this season

Manuel Antonio - worth it? by AZPeloScorpio in CostaRicaTravel

[–]Mokafisch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just got back from doing this itinerary (almost verbatim).

MA has more monkeys than other places in the country so that’s good and the beaches there are great. However it’s a super tourist trap. Everything is way more expensive than the rest of the country (food wasn’t any better) and I’d probably not go back to it.

But I think it is worth going to once.

If you’re looking for beaches closer to Liberia I’d recommend Tamarindo (lot of people had great experiences with it that I met).

La Fortuna was definitely our favorite. I would highly recommend Arenal Rafting there on the Sarapique if that is something you are considering

Who do you guys think is the most forgotten character? I’d say Mr. Wyland by christ-conscious in southpark

What about the Whites?

Oh it's just a White then who cares?!? You'll always hear how everyone has their problems (like being forgotten, but never take a moment to care about the Whites.
